Default PCM message when playing Blu-ray

Hi,

I just installed my home cinema and I'm kind of a beginner
I have: a Yamaha receiver RX-V465 and a Samsung bleuray player BD-1500.

Now when I play a Bleu Ray, ans select DTS-HD sound in disc menu, I get PCM message on my receiver. Sound is great but how can I be sure I get the DTS-HD sound?

When I switch my source on receiver to bleuray I also get message: "decoder mode off".

Could someone please help or advise.

Thx

Michael

Dont worry if you choose the lossless audio option as long as your player can decode it, the signal will be sent as PCM.

BTW welcome to the boards and it is spelt Blu-ray just look at the top of the page for the exact correct spelling.

Thx for your reply, indeed Blu-ray

Is there a way that my receiver shows DTS-HD?
So even when PCM message is on the the audio is DTS-HD, this is good but I would prefer to see the DTS-HD message :-)

Hi, it sounds like its the settings in the blu-ray player that need changing, have a look in the setup menu of your blu-ray player and make sure your bitstreaming the audio and not downmixing it.

I'm pretty sure the 1500 can bitstream the audio to the receiver. Go to your setup menu on the player and change the audio settings ouput to Bitstream. It's probably defaulting to PCM. Don't worry because you're not losing any quality, but if you want your receiver to display the DTS logo, you have to switch it to Bitstream.

I have the BD-P1500 and it does in fact bitstream with PCM as the default option. Simply enter the audio menu and select "Bitstream-Audiophile".

Default option was indeed PCM. Changed to bitstream and indeed now I get the DTS HD logo on my receiver.

I still have a question, I can chose bitstream or bitstreal-audiophile, what is the difference?

Grtz
