Default Peter Gabriel Security LP a Reference Disc

Alright all of you vinyl heads, and particularly if you are a Peter Gabriel fan, you should be on the look out for a copy of Peter Gabriel's Security LP. I can not say if they were all digitally recorded and mastered discs. However, you should be looking for the Geffen Records catalog # GHS2011 pressed on Quiex II vinyl which was a limited edition pressing. This is the 1982 LP that includes Shock the Monkey and Lay Your Hands on Me. Members of the band on this LP include Tony Levin (bass and stick) of King Crimson and Larry Fast (synthesizers) of Synergy fame and Nektar.

I am speaking based upon my expensive Better Records Hot Stamper copy of this LP. As it turns out, I have 2 other copies of this already in my collection, one purchased I believe in the mid 1990's as records were becoming hard to find and a 2nd copy that I purchased on eBay about 4 or 5 years ago. All 3 copies that I have at this point are Promotional copies. The copy that I purchased in about 1995 or so could never have sounded like this when I purchased it because record cleaning products of today just weren't available. As to the 2nd copy purchased about 4 or 5 years ago, this was purchased in anticipation of a replacement Turntable system that finally took place and has only been up and running now for a week. I will have to clean the other 2 copies to find out just how good they are.

In any case, my previous 35+ year old modified Thorens 125 MKII Turntable, Rega RB300 tonearm and Monster Alpha Genesis 500 MC cartridge could never have played this record the way that I am hearing it now. In fact without the relatively new record cleaning products that are now available and possibly steam cleaning hearing what is on this LP was just not possible. Also, my whole audio system would not have allowed anywhere near this audio reproduction prior to what I now have. In addition to my Turntable, Tonearm, Cartridge, and Phono Preamp, I am talking about the rest of the electronics including the amps and the Pre/Pro (which I have had for between 10 months and a little over a year) and the last work done on my main speakers.

So, if you can find yourself a really good copy and pressing of this LP, do yourself a great favor and clean your copy really well. It will provide you with phenomenal reference quality sound that will put your turntable playback system, amps, pre or Pre/Pro amp, and your speakers to a real test. If you are lucky enough to find and clean such an outstanding pressed copy and the rest of your system can live up to it, I dare you to compare this LP to a CD version of the same disc.
