Just for reference... 40,000 hours is 4.56 years.
In Other Words... If you turned it on, and left it on, it would run for 4.5 years or longer.

Yeah, LED panels don't last as long as regular LCD's but their energy consumption is much lower.

I think you should not take your friend's advice on televisions.

In all seriousness, though, they're great sets, and I don't think concerns about lifespan should stop anyone from getting one of these, or any other high-end TV.

that can be debated energy star on most tv's just dims down all your settings using less power.. an uncalibrated or Brightly set led could and would likely use more energy than a calibrated lcd...

its all in the settings and calibration!.. when u push that little energy saver button your PQ goes to hell IMO....

But then again , i calibrate TV's daily, to better than reference PQ

what you dont see is that all those energy ratings are based on the tv IN energy mode,.. Which honestly 99% of ppl with HDTVs dont use .. Why? cuz u buy an HDTV for the picture quality.. NOT energy saving

ANd even at that .. if your watching 6 hrs of tv a day were talking like 40 extra bux a year ( max ).. SO about 1.75 a month more to have a great picture.. or a washed out " energy saver " up to u tho
