Default GTA4 episodic content exclusive to 360

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=25852

Hmm, so Rockstar make their name and money from PS2 then jump ship to Microsoft in exchange for a few quid. Thanks Rockstar. But then the rumours I hear about GTA4 are making me think twice about buying it anyway.

wish i could sound surprised but i was already annoyed at rock star for not releasing first on ps3. I wanted gta4 to look its best and then be ported over to the xbox360, not made at the same time. I can not see how they can fully utilize the ps3 this way.

What is episodic content? What does that mean? With the size of BDs how can the 360 version have anything exclusive. How many disc are there for the 360?

Its not about size it is about what you can download to the hard drive. And the 360 is getting the only love there.

so the 360 is going to require you use more of your HDD due to the lack of disk space...

I'd honestly rather be able to use that space for other things...

Seems like a pretty desperate business strategy. Publishers must know more gamers buy a game when they're as happy as possible about it, this very much seems like a move by Microsoft to make it seem like there's less value in the PS3 version even though the amount of content that's in the base package of a GTA game has never been in question, there's always been a TONNE to play. It seems some publishers don't believe in the strength of their games anymore so they'd rather take exclusivity incentives than sell games.

We don't necessarily know the full story, there may be features exclusive to the PS3, time will tell.

I have an idea, why dont they release the same exact game for both systems? I really hate extra content and when they release it officially. It like they are just saying oh the Xbox is getting more stuff sorry loyal Sony fans who have been playing the games for years. I bet Rockstar is going to say the graphics and framerate are better on PS3 so extra stuff has to go Xbox.
Besides controls Xbox got the better versions of all the previous games, though they were released later.

Or a better idea, how about they make the same exact game to the fullest abilities on each system they release it on. Instead of using stupid gimmicks. If this is true it just is not fair to any of rockstar's PS fanbase.

I remember reading a story a while back (don't remember where maybe ign) that each platform will have it own exclusive extra downloads for the game.

yup. that is true, not to mention this does indeed prove one thing that rockstar has to break up the GTA:4 FOR THE XBOX360 BECAUSE OF SPACE CONTRAINGHTS. JUST LIKE elder scrolls..we have knights of the nine all on the same disc, while on the xbox360 its a seperate download. what this tell's me is even with the word of a rockstar developer. already said the xbox360 has space constraignts because of only DVD9 drive. while the xbox360 zealots keep touting it as a + for the xbox360, its actualy a negative. because the playstation 3 also supports downloadable content. but unlike the xbox360 the playstation 3 system does not have as much of a space constraignt. the xbox360 zealots can try to spin this as much as they want but its evident.
this is not a good sign just to finish the game they need downloads

I haven't really like a Grand Theft Auto game since GTA 2, but now it's just down to principle. What is with developers constantly short-changing the PS3? It began with getting underdeveloped ports and multiplatform games, then losing all the major exclusives, and no those very same lost exclusives are going to end up getting new and better content on the 360. It makes me want to buy a 360 and go Office Space on it with a bat. Or just a little nerdy kid with glasses with a sticker on his forehead that says Rockstar or Capcom.

i would'nt fret to much guys both consoles will be getting the same game , episodic content can be good but alot of it is just tiny bits of junk that developers shovel out to bleed out your wallets.

I agree it is a bit of a kick in the sack for 360 to get it all by itself but i would wait and see what they get before we grab the pitch forks and torches .

regardless im really looking foward to gta4.

Well, as far as I remember, Sony droped the ball on this one. Maybe Rockstar wanted more and more for that exclusive friendship but it was a friendship worth having. Sure, the 360 coming earlier on and having a bigger base is a reason too, but mostly MS kissed more ass then Sony. I remember reading about in 2005, how Rockstar was most anxious to develop for the PS3. How they wanted to continue the work started on the PS2 on the PS3. Then all over sudden, you hear things about being a 360 excl. and in the end being released the same day, with the 360 having excl. ep. content. Now things might be tight up by contracts and money, so things will go the way they have to now.

Don't forget on thing, the Core users which don't have a HDD won't be able to use those contents. They won't be that many left but they're still 360 users.

I think in the end, Rockstar is happy for selling as many games as possible with the 360 userbase but are a little bummed about the restrictions that the system has brought with it.

Downloadable content will just mean it will cost you more money. If they release Knights of the Nine and Oblivion at they same time they would had to put it on two disc. This didn't happen because Oblivion came out 5 to 9 months before Knights of the nine was even finish. Why haven't they release the rest of the Downloadable content for the PS3? They have 8 more they could release.

The real question is what is the content exclusive to 360 and will it be a real major factor in buying GTA4 for 360 or PS3?

the simple answer is there has not been enough time for them to recompile the code toward the playstation 3 because the game was developerd on the xbox360 not the playstation 3..it is going to take longer for for the port..its not just a straight up port.

not to mention even the developers at rockstar have said the space constraights of dvd 9 are what the xbox360's development problems were with the gta:4, as for downloadable content the playstation 3 will be getting its own exclusive downloadable content. because both networks are not the same between the xbox360 and the playstation 3

Now i'd just like to add a very important something to thise before some people just chuck themselves off a bridge and almost make ME feel guilty for not sharing this tid bit earlier.

Both the 360 and PS3 versions of GTAIV are set to get their own respective set of downloadable exclusives so were also getting exclusive downloadable content on the PS3 versions but what remains to be seen is which console gets the BETTER downloadable content.

Yes, there will be exclusive content on both, at least that was a known fact some time ago. The only thing that fuels this dabate in some places is, that they mentioned it for the 360 and not for the PS3, as if it was somewhat of a better version.

BUt you're right, we'll have to wait and see what this content will be and what it is on both platforms.

I actually think Rockstar and Sony are planning somthing. Rockstar wouldn't just switch for no reason. Theres something more to this.
I think Sony asked rockstar to keep the ps3 version stuff as a secret for a while. And I think PS3 will have much better stuff. Sony just want to make MS think there getting a better game, and then when its close to being released, Rockstar annonce the content for ps3 making ms very very angry lol. It always looks asif MS are shouting while Sony do nothing but Sony are a sneaky lot. And they always turn out better. It always relys on time. You just have to wait.

I could actually see sony pulling a sheet over ms's eyes..

Seems Sony always knows more then what they say, and
they never reveal there cards until its too late.

Well according to this link and other sites Microsoft spent 50 million for the exclusives. I have read others that said it is going to be the exact same game otherwise for both, but micro is getting the extras. Maybe Rockstar will toss the Sony fans something for free, because I think Microsoft is going to want that money back by charging a nice size fee for both.
