Default PS3 and HDMI hook-ups

Ok im a true novice in this area.. I have a sony TV with 1 hdmi in.. and a srround sound with 1 hdmi out.. DAV-FX900W is the system.. also a sony.

Guess what do i need to buy to basically get the ps3 to play with my tv and surround sound at same time? Will it even be possible or do i need a new system with 2 hdmi slots? Any help be appreciated.

This is for the PS3

Hook up your hdmi cable from your ps3 to your hdmi input on your receiver then have another hdmi cable going from your hdmi output on your receiver to your tv.

Do you have a digital cable box AND a PS3? both with HDMI out? If the answer to that is a yes, then you need an HDMI switcher to select between the cable box and the PS3. (No, PS3 does not have a HDMI input - just an HDMI out).

since there is no hdmi inputs, connect ps3 and direct tv box to reciever via composite and connect receiver to tv hdmi. use rca's to connect audio.

I have ONE HDMI IN on my TV.. I have ONE HDMI out on my surround.. I guess the PS3 comes with ONE HDMI OUT?

Now my surround sound has dvd player the one with the ONE HDMI out.. Will i be better off getting a av receiver or will a HDMI multi port work?

I realize i wont need the dvd on the surround once i get the ps3 going but its where the stereo sound comes out.

ull need a reciever that has HDMI in and HDMI out like the one I have. It has 2 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out. ITs the SONY STR- K900. Its only 250 brand new and a bargain if u ask me. It decodes PCM , DTS, Dobly Digital Prologic II. It also has auto calibration which is sweet and saves a hassle. Sounds great with the blu ray movies and PS3 games. The Subwoofer rumbles my room and house when watching these. Its sweet. Its not the best out there but the best for value and what u need it for. Its a 5.1 system by the way.

I have exactly the same situation as yours but instead of direct TV, I have cable HD. The only difference is that my receiver has optical but not HDMI.

HDMI includes both audio and video signals. Furthermore, betweent the sender and the destination, there are control signals that are sent that allows the display(TV) to adjust as appropriate. To me, to maximize your investment of the PS3, using the HDMI is a must.

Check if your TV has optical output. If it has, then send the optical output of the TV to the receiver, then you can have the receiver/amp play the music where your source is. Then buy a HDMI switcher (around $120) that allows you to select HDMI source. With this, BOTH TV-HD and PS3 source is connected to the TV, and then the optical output of the TV goes to the receiver.

This setup allows you to watch TV using just the TV's speakers, or to use the receiver power boost. Since you are using optical for input from TV to the receiver, the audio signals are separated but not converted, so there should be no loss.

The Sony DAV-FX900W is a HTiB; I believe all Sony's HTiBs are DAVs.

From the reviews, I don't think it has any HDMI input. Just an output for DVD playback. It does have coax and optical input.

So basically since you're going to benefit from the PS3's DVD upconversion than the one in the DAV, here's the setup:

PS3 - HDMI - TV. Set the PS3 to either 720p or 1080i to suit your viewing taste.

PS3 - optical - DAV. Set the PS3 to output optical audio.

This is the best that you can do with this setup.

well first off your wrong... it does have 1 hdmi out and works fine (the surround Stereo). Got it working and very happy with ps3 and blue rays..Just hope better games come out soon)

DAV-FX900W has 1 hdmi out slot... using it with a hdmi cable.
