Angry Best Buy Price Match Issues And Hassles

Well, had my first horrid experience yesterday at WORST BUY with their so-called PRICE-MATCH guarantee BS.
To make the long story short (since I have to keep this clean), WORST BUY DID NOT HONOR Target's $9.99 price tag. Per, the incompetent Manager "It is too much of a markdown"
REALLY?!? Why the hell would you even have the 'price-match' policy if you aren't going to honor your competetor's price?? I mean, I can see if it was a MAJOR purchase of $5K+... but a 20 f***ing $ difference!!??!!

Not only that, the dumb a$$ who called her Manager didn't even ask me if I was a Rewards member! So I paid for my stuff and forgot all about it because I was already livid.
So they tell me, "You would have to go on-line or call the 800 number to redeem your points". I said out loud and in anger, "ARE YOU F***ING SERIOUS?" as they both look dumbfonded and of course, had an attitude after I cussed them out already with the price matching issue.

For the DC Metropolitan area, the WORST BUY I went to is located at Potomac Yards on Jeff Davis Hwy in Alexandria, VA. Just an FYI.

Instead of having the veins pop on your forehead, why didn't you just go to Target?

Sounds like you're the customer from hell. I'm so glad I don't work in retail anymore. I would have kicked you out of the store.

Question

The have the price match guarantee printed for the world to see at their customer service window.

If you really want to, if the manager said "We won't honor the price match of a local competitor on an in-stock piece of merchandise" or something to that effect, you can sue them for false advertising. It might make you ask if Punisher: War Zone is worth all that hassle though.

I get a feeling that there are details missing from this story. I don't think this is just about getting 9 rewards points. You still bought the disc at Best Buy even though they didn't match the price? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Yep. The first time you cursed at me or my employee our time together would have been over. When I was a retail manager (thank God those days are behind me) I simply called security every time a customer thought they could act like that.

Also, it appears that this guy still bought the disc at Best Buy and still wants the rewards points. If he was really upset (instead of just wanting to be a jackass) he would have left empty handed and gone straight to Target.

wow, best buy may have handled that badly, but you handled the situation even worse. using profanity and yelling at people will get you nowhere in these situations.

as for the price matching, if the manager says no, that's all you can do at that moment. i would have then requested the contact information for someone in corporate or the phone number for the district manager and proceed from there to let them know a store isn't following the best buy price matching policy. however, you should also realize that manager's have the ability to turn down PM offers, and that's just that. at the store i work at, the manager will actually price match amazon.com to ensure customers leave the store satisfied, but as you've seen, the level of customer service can vary by store and this is very unfortunate. next time, i would recommend behaving like an adult above all else. manager's won't feel any sympathy for someone whining like a child.

Because you could also go into a store and get turned down for a price match and then be upset about it, instead of just going to Target......maybe.......

Actually BB should be sued for false advertising and illegal business practices and I believe they have.

If you claim to do something then do it...don't change your policy on the fly.

They have not "messed" with me that way but I don't shop there much if at all any more. Not worth the drive or the effort.

With their policy they will join CC.

I've never had an issue doing a PM w/ BB, but I'll go way out on a limb and bet that I am a more enjoyable customer to deal with than the OP.

they still have to worry about their profit margin in the store dude, there's nothing that says they have to match any price anywhere.

why would they match a price knowing they'd be taking a loss on it??? which @ the $10 point, they would be.

that's why some stores go out of business, b/c they don't keep an eye on these types of things.

like another poster said, why not leave, give them no business and go to target??

obviously it wasn't as huge of a deal as u make it out to be since u still paid full price @ "worst buy"

If you find a lower advertised price on the same available brand and model prior to your purchase or during the exchange and return period, we will match that price. Simply bring in the ad of the local retail competitor or Best Buy, while the lower price is in effect and receive your price match.

their website says nothing about not pricematching because they might lose money. what kind of policy would that be

sounds like the manager was in the wrong, and the op was certainly in the wrong for blowing up like that.

but as others have said..why not just go to target?

well, i'm not defending best buy, i worked there for 6 years and hated it but i still shop there once in a while.

a smart manager will always worry about the stores bottom line, granted, $20 won't kill them, but it will still show up on a report somewhere and they will be asked about it by corp.

While I loath Best Buy and NEVER shop at that over priced joke of a store, I am surprised the OP still bought the movie. I would have told them to keep the movie if they can't honor the price match and walked out, went to Target and bought it there.

Better yet, you can find it for about that price from a lot of sellers here and at highdefdigest.com, not a really hard movie to find for cheap if you ask me.

I am with you on Worst Buy though. I hate that store.

If the manager is too spineless to price match, get the number/email of corporate and inform them that the store isn't honoring its advertised policies.

and i can appreciate and understand not doing it. (still not right tho)

i dunno. for single items like that, its not worth the hassle of pricematching. i just go to the store where its cheap. thus..no problems

we don't really know all the details of what happened though....we're basing this off of someone's extremely biased experience. i'm not trying to defend BB either, because if i tried to price match something that fell in line with their policy and was turned down, i would be livid as well; however, i (and i'm sure many others) still would have handled the situation in a much more mature fashion.

like you said x--it's just not worth the hassle. in the end, they'll lose a customer for life, and someone else will gain one. best buy's loss in more ways than one.

No! I DID NOT purchase that movie at WB. What sense would that make for me to purchase a 30$ BD where I can get it for 10$! Come on people!!
