Default New Receiver Input..

I'm looking for a new receiver - currently using Sony STR-DA3000es http://b2b.sony.com/Solutions/produc...yf-dnser-22130

I'm currently looking at Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K or ONKYO TXSR706B.

Things I'm looking for -

7.1 Audio
Atleast 2 HDMI - 3 or more preferred
1080p up conversion from analog
Price Range - $700 - Wife would like less though

Any Recommendations?

man your sony has 150 watts per ch, i had a sony 3300 es from 2 yrs ago that only had 100watts per ch, really goes to show how so many manufactures are sacraficing power for features.
I have a pioneer receiver now and its great, i would highly recomend their products.

I just got a Pioneer 1019 and love it.. came from an Onk 606. The Pioneer destroys it! I noticed better aq immediately. Nothing major but my speakers sound more active/alive.The overall built quality and screen are much nicer as well. One thing Onk has going for it is a more intuitive menu but the Pioneer is great once you dig into it for a bit. Also, in addition to looking sexier the Pioneer is also a little smaller in a sleeker way. My local Best Buys just got the Pioneer in so you should def check it out.

If you have any questions about the 1019 I would be happy to help out. I have been looking for other people on the forums that have bought this model but with it being new I have not seen too many yet.

drWaLLs,

If you have a Best Buy Magnolia Home Theater store near you, you might be able to step up to a Pioneer Elite VSX-03TXH for less than $700. They have had pretty massive price reduction sales on the Pioneer Elite receivers over the last month or so. If you don't mind purchasing online, you may be able to do better, but be aware that receivers sold online through legitimate, but non-authorized Pioneer sites will likely not include a Pioneer factory warranty. This is especially true of the Elite series receivers. That's why I mentioned Best Buy. If your nearest Best Buy is not a Magnolia Home Theater store, they may still be able to order an Elite VSX-03TXH for you to buy at the discounted price - YMMV.

If you like to tweak your audio, then the Pioneer Elite series receivers are going to be right up your alley. I have the Pioneer Elite SC-05 running 7.1 channels all to Polk Audio speakers (see my gallery for more details if you'd like), and I couldn't be happier.

To be sure, the Pioneer Elite VSX-03TXH does 7.1, lossless audio, video upconversion, and has 3 HDMI inputs.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input - The VSX-03TXH may be too much weight for me - sounds weird but the entertainment center its on holds 50 lbs per shelf and I already have a APC AV H15 which weighs close to 17 lbs..

Although the Pioneer VSX-01TXH looks pretty good and it doesn't seem to be much of a downgrade from the Pioneer VSX-03TXH

Both of these are great choices. They are both going for $600 shipped on Amazon right now. If you can make it work go with the VSX-03TXH. The weight difference signifies that it has a better build with even higher quality electronics, but the VSX-01TXH is a great alternative if the weight is a problem.

Been a while since I replied - I'm still looking..

Wife has lowered the budget to $500 - We found out we are having a kid.

Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K
YAMAHA RX-V665
ONKYO TX-SR607
Marantz SR5003
Pioneer Elite VSX-03TXH - Would not come with a warranty though..

Any ideas - or wait and roll with what I have.

Buy Mikes receiver, I think he is selling it right about $500. If not Mike and you have it in November, I may be hitting you up.

Congratulations on the baby!! If you can get the Marantz within your new budget its probably the way I would go. I would personally prefer the Elite, but not without a warranty. Another receiver you may want to consider is THIS Harman Kardon for $529 if you are at all familiar with the brand. They have excellent sound quality and true power...not make-believe numbers like a lot of brands. They look nice too. Since you are considering that Yamaha you might as well look at THIS one for $499 shipped.

Ya I was seriously considering the Elite but the only place I could find one would be online.. which would come with no warranty

I had been eying Mike's Marantz but hadn't had a Marantz nor knew much about them. The Pioneer (non elite) and Yamaha I had read on the forums that they are either loved or hated..

After a bunch of research here on the forums and elsewhere I decided to get the Marantz and even though I haven't been on the forums long it feels great getting a good deal and helping a fellow home theater out.
