I just bought this receiver for a good price at Future Shop and was wondering if anyone had any input as to the performance of this unit. I've looked for reviews on it, but couldn't find any.
I bought it because it supports HDMI 1.3a and all the various Audio HD formats. Was it a good choice to make or should I have stuck with a less-expensive 7.1 unit? Any input is appreciated! Merry XMas and have great New Year all! |

As it happens, I just bought one of these as a replacement for a Yamaha RXV-3300. It is about the same as the 3300 but adds HDMI.
It is their top of the line receiver. You will be happy. A friend of mine also bought the 6190. We are both happy with the 6190. If you have not done it yet, then try the auto configuration. You set up the included microphone at the location you'd normally sit and then the unit configures all the speakers for you. It sets up the correct volume level on each speaker and also sets up the subwoofer cutoff level. Apart from being "cool", the auto configuration seemed to work really well. |

I'm looking forward to doing so and experiencing some kick-ass movie-viewing. I can't wait! LOL |

Thanks for that most informative link. I agree that the DENON looks nicer and aesthetics certainly are important. However, I think my final decision to choose the YAMAHA was because of the HDMI inputs. With HD Cable, PS3 and a soon to be purchased TOSHIBA HD-DVD I'm liking my choice much more.
I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma and I just purchased some Totem MITES rear channel speakers for my eventual surround experience. At the moment I'm using my Totems for the front and some bookshelf PSB's for rears and that is the extent of my setup for the moment. In a few months I'll add the Totem Centre Channel speaker and a Subwoofer (haven't decided on a make and model yet). And then a few months after that I'll get the piece-de-la-resistance Totem Sttaf towers, which I'll use for the front. I went to the extent I'm going, because I wanted my setup to reflect both a good A/V surround expereince, but also a solid 2-channel music experience. I have literally thousands of Vinyl LP's and I think the Totem Sttafs will compliment that side of my desired experience quite nicely. |

LOL.....not really a bad idea......especially when you consider I can get one for $99!!!
Not to worry...I'm a Blu-ray supporter, but I also like Paramount movies and don't want to wait 3 years to see The Bourne movies on Blu-ray. I hope you can understand my weakness in this area! LOL |

For reasons that mystefy me, my receiver will no longer output a video signal. It just stopped! I made no changes, so I'm baffled by this occurrance.
In order for me now to watch movies, I have to connect the PS3 directly into my Panny Plasma, but that defeats the purpose of having spent thousands on a HT system. I went so far as to call Sony and they said to return the PS3 and they would check out if it was a problem with the unit. It came back within 5 days and they indicated there was nothing wrong (BTW, thank you Sony for great support). I also visited my local Yahama authorized repair facility, but I wasn't as pleased with them. They laughed in my face and said they had never ever heard of a possibly defective HDMI connection. So I went back and looked at every available option within the manual and reset the system to what it said I should. Still nothing. Are one of you guys/gals able to offer some assistance as to what could possibly be wrong? I don't want to bring in the receiver for repair until I've exhausted every other possibility. Any help is most appreciated. Thank you |

My buddy just had the same problem with his hooking up a 360. Must be something with the Yamaha's HDMI setup or a hardware issue.

I think there is a problem with the HTR. I connected the output of my cable box (COX) to the HTR. It worked at first however the video eventually went away. I tried an HDMI direct connect from my cable box to the TV and had no video. I had to replace my cable box and have not tried to reconnect throught the HTR.
I connected my Sony DVD player to the HTR and it work at first and then the same thing happened. I will have to get the HDMI port on my Sony repaired now. Both devices worked with composite or component outputs just not HDMI after connecting to the HTR. Even though they are HDMI inputs on the HTR I think there must be a wiring problem and the HTR is outputing some voltage that is blowing up the HDMI output ports on my other machines. I could test this by plugging the cable box back into the HTR however I'm not sure I want the hassle. |

I would suggest you contact Yamaha of America's tech support. I've contacted them recently on a speaker terminal issue (self-inflicted by me), and they were extraordinarily helpful and responsive. It was clear they really cared about their receivers. You can find a link directly through Yamaha's web site. Good luck. |
