Default PS3 Optimal Upscale Settings

I search for a thread on this but could not find anything, sorry if I overlooked it.

I was looking at the settings on my PS3 Under DVD Settings - DVD Upscale

My questions is what's the difference between "Normal" and "Double Upscale". Which one provides a better picture? Is the double just shrunken?

Any help is much appreciated

Hiya mate,

yeah, if you have your ps3 connected to a HDTV, then you want it set to "normal" as this will always display the DVD at its correct aspect ratio (fill the screen for 16:9 content, black bars on top and bottom for 2.35:1 content and black bars on sides for 4:3 content)

"double" just reduces the size of the image playing on the screen so that it doesnt fill the screen anymore and is harder to actually see the pixel structure. It's good, but fills the empty space not used with image with just black.

You should be able to guess what the other setting does bud...

"double" doubles the resolution of the DVD, from 480P to 960P. Full will change the resolution you set... 720P, 1080I or 1080P
