Default Blockbuster adds bigger Blu-ray section online

Now one can also search to see which local Blockbuster carries BLU-RAY movies.

Ok it says there is now over 1700 Blockbuster stores currently carrying BLU-RAY discs but it looks like one still needs to call the store to see if they carry it.

I think if you select a Blu-Ray title and then check for rental (where it checks to see if they have it in store) it will only show up if they're carying Blu-Ray. I tried this a month or so ago when I first signed up and when I would pick a BD title and then check for in-store rental it would say they didn't have it. Now some BD titles list stores and they're not always the ones closest to my house. One of them is near my work so I'm going to stop in after work tonight and see if they have BD in store.

And they need to SERIOUSLY increase the number of Blu-ray copies they have. Most say "Very Long Wait". Shouldn't demand drive them to get more copies?

My local BB manager confirmed to me last night they are getting 180+ discs either Friday or Monday for display. This is awesome!

In some cities renting BLU-RAY will be like renting Laserdiscs until BLU-RAY is expanded in every store. I remember many years ago before the DVD format was released I would drive 30 minutes away just to go rent a Laserdisc. Also when DVD first started to be rented not everyone carried them, now DVD has replaced Laserdisc and VHS after many years. Rental stores like Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, and Movie Gallery will one day need to carry BLU-RAY discs in every store so that they do not lose sales from satellite and cable. When HDTV becomes the norm in every home then if the local video store is not carrying HDTV movies then people will stay home and watch HDTV programming on cable or satellite.

I had Blood and Chocolate on my list and it said "Long Wait" then it showed up on my door 2 days later. I guess I got lucky.

Doh, I think I lied, I don't think its actually checking specfically for BD movies when you check for in-store rental.

I guess the Montrose, CO store won't be one of the lucky one's yet, but I will still rent them online of course!

Lucky you. I'll stop by my local BB on the way home from work next Monday & see if they've got their allotment in yet (they're one of the targeted expansion sites).

I clicked on store rental for BD bridge to terabithia and it said my store carries it.
Of course as of two days ago i knew there where no BD in my store. I called just to check and they say it probably will be a while before they have BD in store.
SHRUG

I am happy that we are getting closer though. :-)

If that's their definition of "long wait" then it's not that bad!!!

I just did a search for my local blockbuster stores and I called them to make sure they have Blu-rays and they said no. That does not mean that they will not have then in a week or so. Although I would think that the website would have the correct infomation posted on it.

Yes, you guys can pretty much ignore those "Long Wait" or "Very Long Wait" flags: once they get the discs back the ship the movie regardless.

Called the two closest BB's, and neither know anything yet with regards to which stores in the area may be one of the 1700 to carry BD.

You would think so. I saw this when I was renting blu-ray disks from block buster. I hardly ever got any of the movies at the top of my que. Finally I complained and they replied with some B.S. generic E-Mail. I wish I would have kept the E-Mail it was kind of a joke. Finally I left Block Buster and went to NetFlix. I put all the same movies in my que in the same order. Suddenly I was getting all the movies I was waiting and waiting for with block buster one right after another.

After I left blockbuster they sent me several more generic E-Mails saying how bad they felt about loosing my bussiness. What a joke if they really cared they would have at least sent me a real message from a real person. I would have been far less upset with them had I heard nothing from them then I was with the generic messages.

I just got back from BB (Best Buy that is). Blu has twice as much shelf room now. They added a display right in the middle of an aisle. Someone would have to be blind not to see it.

I noticed that "Blu-ray DVD" is now part of the main menu, rather than being in the "Collections" menu.

Cool; I've just sent 'em an email asking them to change the menu item to "Blu-ray Disc" (yeah, I'm a pedant). :-)
