I'm looking to upgrade my speakers. I was talked into this, because upgrading my speakers would make a more noticeable difference then upgrading my receiver. I don't know my speaker intricacies.
My current speakers and receiver specifications http://reviews.cnet.com/home-theater...tag=mncol;rnav I thought about upgrading my front soundstage to Polk Monitor 70's and CS2. I haven't personally heard any of the Polk's or any other speaker for that matter. I'm hoping to get to best buy soon. I was wondering how big of a difference I should expect / if this is even a good idea. Opinions / advice are greatly appreciated !! Thanks !! Last edited by sd_semro; 07-26-2009 at 04:22 AM. |

i would say definately a good idea. those speakers you specified will be much better than the htib speakers you have. also, when you upgrade your receiver, youll be able to get hd aduio from your blu ray player since the specs show your receiver is only pass through and the player doesnt have muti analog outs.

Thanks for the speedy reply,
Would this speaker combo be the best bang for the buck. I'm looking to spend about $550 (I can get the Polk's for that). I belive the front soundstage is the most vital speakers to your system, aren't they ? Just wanted to make sure I go with the right set. You guys are far more knowledgeable / experienced than myself. |

The link is not working for me so I can't really say which way you should go, but I will tell you what I have done so far with close to the same thing as you.
If not for my experience I would say go with what un4gvn94538 said. My story is this, I had an really cheap HTiB(Panasonic), with plastic speaker housing(you can see from my link to my gallery). My HTiB receiver wouldn't have been a good idea for speaker upgrade first, because of the OHM's and I didn't want to wait for the HD sound. I ended up getting a Denon 789 receiver and also built me my own subwoofer, I tell ya, these cheap speaker's are really putting out some great sound and I am finding it hard to change them from anything low end-med range. I have heard the Polk 6750's and I thought I was gonna get those, but I am happy with the cheap ones for now, but I do plan on getting the Def-Tech pro cinema 600 which I know will be an bigger improvement over the cheap ones I have now and the Polk 6750 **** little edit **** By the way, this is for my bedroom, not main viewing area. I put another link up if you want to check it out. I currently have very thin speaker running (what came with it 22 / 24 gauge). I'm going to upgrade that also. Should I do that first before ordering speakers ??
My system will go in a large bedroom. I can't think of the dimensions currently. I'll be living at my sisters through college. My room is rather large, and it could easily hold the Polk M70's. So you went the other route and got the receiver for HD sound. How noticeable was the improvement even with your HTiB speakers. I've been told I should go the speaker route. |

I knew that my cheap speakers were ok, because I put my Onkyo 805 on them before I connected my Klipsch speakers in my main area. I remember hearing that big difference with HD back when I tested Casino Royale. I cranked the sound up and was thinking I was gonna pop the speakers (I didn't care I was about to change them for the klipsch), but never did. Get the better receiver for now and save even more money to get the best speaker's you can. |

I'm split on what to do. I'm not sure which receiver would be best for me. Any suggestions if I do go that route ??
I saw the Pioneer VSX-1019H-K on CNET got fantastic reviews from them for a midrange receiver which would be right up my alley. I was thinking sticking with onkyo, but they seem to not be as powerful and the THD's are different (I'm not sure what those are anyways). Is a different brand receiver than speakers matter at all ? I have both the Onkyo 805: I love it, wouldn't trade for anything. and Denon 789: really nice receiver, perfect for my small bedroom, wouldn't mind a higher model. Quote:
I have never heard that before or maybe because I have an 805 and the power this thing puts out! Last edited by HAMP; 07-26-2009 at 05:05 AM. |

For $550 you could look at the Energy C-500 speakers and a C-C100 Center channel. Check www.audioadvisor.com. That would give you an incredible front sound stage to build from.
