Default how do I hook up surround sound?

I have hooked up all the speakers and sub woofer to the onyx receiver, however how do I conncet the receiver to the TV / blu-ray player? For some reason the receiver has a video inputs as well as audio so when I connect it, it is seen as a separate source from the TV .. what cable do I need and how do I get it to recognize it from the TV?? thanks for the tips!

1. Does your AVR have HDMI inputs/output
2.Is it just (HDMI) passthrough meaning it wont decode audio just send along the video
3. What kind of BD player and does it decode the codecs and if so does it have analog outputs (7 rca jack looking )

Remember now your tv is just a display.

BD player>>>receiver>>>TV all via HDMI OR Analog out of player to amp and HDMI from player to TV

I don't have my blu-ray player yet, but will in a few days, it is just TV now/cable. The a/v receiver is connected to the speakers. It has every kind of ouput on the back, three HDMI outputs, component, and regular a/v

So I would connect the blu-ray player to the receiver via HDMI? and then I would connect another HDMI from the receiver to the TV?

And if you tilt your head a little at the idea of spending $1.96 on an HDMI cable, these were posted in another thread by saprano and they are made in the USA. Look like really nice cables.

Don't mean to crap on your post but wow those are expensive $49 for a 1 meter cable. I bet if you were to test the two those cable are probably no better than the monoprice ones. Well at least there not charging $99 for monster ones i've seen at best buy.

Yeah, there's a pretty huge debate about this. Rather than create another one, check out the HDMI cables sticky at the top of this forum.

I just think people should buy what they want and other people should chill the phuk out. Just trying to give the guy some options...that's all.
