Default Jamo D8

I've fallen in love with this sub, and planning on buying either this or the D6 in the future..

Does anyone own either one of them, or have heard them somewhere? They both fit the rest of my speakers, but I really like the glass and design of the D8 - perfect match for my speakers!

D8:

D6:

Its 12 inch, while the D6 is 15 inch, and they are both powered by a 400 watt amplifier.. What are your thought on these?

Thanks!

Edit: Btw if youre looking at my pics - don't worry I've hidden most of the cables, bought a new receiver, and hung my TV on the wall.. Looks way better than the pics

Ah, the elusive Jamo speaker owner.

You are right, the D6 is a great looking sub. Doesn't 400w seem low though (for this caliber sub)?

It doesn't matter how many watts a sub supposedly is capable of. I would rather have a well made efficient sub over one that claims a thousand watts or whatever ridiculous claims manufacturers make. Those mega-watt subs will just distort quicker as you push them harder and sound like crap.

Only you can decide what sub you like most, and whether you are looking for a musical sub or a home theater sub ??? If you want to know about reliability or performance feedback on those brands from other owners, you won't find them here. You might try other forums.

If you are looking for just a home theater sub, there are millions of great ones out there. So much so, that it basically comes down to splitting hairs. A home theater sub's job is an easy one, considering the requirements for everyday use. If realistic music reproduction is your primary concern then you might want to be more critical of your purchase. I doubt that you will be able to get a sub designed for home theater use to be very good at life like music reproduction at any cost. They are very different paths.

Yeah I mostly want it for home theater use.. I agree that a lot of subs sound very, very good, and I'm sure I would be satisfied with a lot of different models.. But if I get my hands on this it'll fit right in, and that might be good for the overall experience??

Jamo knows what it's doing so I'm sure the matching sub will be great for your speakers. I have never heard this or any other Jamo sub, so is this model considered to be musical, or an all out home theater sub ??? My guess is that it was designed to be both. What matters is how you feel about it. A home theater sub's job is an easy one, so a lot of subs out there will do a great job !!!

If you are happy with the performance of this sub then why not !!! If you think you will feel the need to upgrade soon after, hold out a little while longer until you find exactly what you are looking for.

Hi Niels,

Looks like you've really caught the "upgraditis" bug eh? New receiver and getting your cables organized, your TV mounted and now possibly a new Sub-wwoofer! Fantastic to hear!

Andrew has offered some great advise which I won't be able to add to, as I know little about sub-woofer's and their expected performance. I would say this though, that D8 sure looks nice and would most definately match your other speakers.

I was going to suggest that you head on over to Jwilly's newly created JAMO thread, but I see you've already found it. Excellent!

Good luck and keep us posted...new pics would be great as well!

John

Ive just now taken some new pics - hopefully theyll be uploaded tonight.. The upgradeitis has been a problem for about 1½ year hehe.. Its not something that just happened, I always look around for quite some time before dropping the cash for something new.. Ofcourse its always fun to buy some new wires, banana plugs, PS3 stands and so on, but that just minor expenses

How much is the Jamo subwoofer?

If you are interested in Jamo, you should also look at the offerings from Bolzano Villerti (BV). At least, the name is sexier.
They come in different Finishes.

This is the matching center channel:

Yeah they look really expensive!! For a used D8 I think I'll eventually be able to find it for around $500.. Wont pay any more than even if it means I'll have to wait a little
