Exclamation Guys help me decide on a receiver. Here are my options

I am looking at 3 receivers which I can get. Please let me know the best choice for me

I have an Elite Kuro TV 50 inch

My speakers are samsung...Will update my speakers in the near future but these are not bad at all

Ok here are my choices.

I am using it for my Direct TV HD with HDMI, Xbox 360 with HDMI, PS3 with HDMI

Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K

Onkyo TSR-607

Pioneer VSX-03TXH

The VSX-1019 is sold out everywhere near me but BB and other spots should be getting them this week and the price is $499

The Onkyo TSR-607 is sold at my local PC Richards and it goes for $499 but the guy will sell it to me for $380

The VSX-03TXH is sold at my local 6th Ave Electronics brand new for $499

The Elite VSX-03TXH is from 2008 and I am sure is great but does not do some of the things that the newer models do.

Any suggestions.

Before purchasing ANY of those receivers, check your current speaker impedence (Ohm) rating. If it's anything but 6 or 8 ohms, you need to be careful in your purchase. I know that the Onkyo 607 for instance can't handle 4 ohm speakers. Hooking up the wrong speakers could damage or kill equipment. I mention this since it sounds like you're pulling speakers from a HTiB setup, and many times their impedence is way off what other equipment can handle.

Thanx for the heads up.....

The samsung speakers are from my Samsung HTIB..They are 4Ohm

I am using the side speakers that came with my Elite Kuro as the left and right

I am not sure what Ohm are the Pioneer TV speakers but will check later

So of the samsung speakers I am using the center and surround left and right.

I will get speakers soon but I am a noob when it comes to these things.

Are the things the Pioneer VSX-03TXH doesn't do important to you? If they are, then I would cancel out the search for that model.

Caveat: If not, Pioneer's Elite receivers are a top notch build and I wouldn't hesitate to pick it over the other two.

I am much more a fan of Pioneer product than I am Onkyo, but the price on the Onkyo may be a determining factor for you. If it isn't then I would gently suggest the Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K.

I went out and purchased the Elite model VSX-03TXH but returned it the same day before even opening it. I got home and read some info on it and saw that it had no Ipod cable connection like the new 1019 and 1 less hdmi not to mention no upscale to 1080p. Not sure if I am correct on that one

So I returned it and got my money back.

The Onkyo is a well known good brand and the guy told me he would sell it to me for $380 plus tax.

But I do love Pioneer since I have a Pio Elite Kuro.

The only issue i see is that I had the 8 series receiver from Pion and had to return it to Best Buy because i got no picture from DIrect tv on the hdmi switch

The ps3 and 360 worked fine but direct tv only gave me sound but no pic

What can't the 03TXH do that might make me go for the 1019

I thought you answered that question yourself in an earlier post. You commented on the 03TXH not having an iPod connection. I assumed this was a factor for you.

Well that is a handy feature but in reality is not something that would be a deal breaker

I am more interested in how the performance would be...

I mean the 1019 seems to cost more then the Elite...I wonder why is that

I suppose in one sense it's like comparing a Nissan to an Infinity and a Toyota to a Lexus. Same corporate ownership, two different levels of performance.

So i went to 6th ave electronics and all of the stores near me were sold out and only had the floor model which they keep in locked storage for their tv's

the 6th ave stores near me all had the floor models only and told me it was $795

I asked if they would lower the price since it was a floor model and they said it was that price because it was a floor model.

he said in a box when they were in rotation since they are now discontinued they were 1400 bucks

i went to 3 diff stores and all of the floor models looked great and had no scratches and no dirt

Should I get it for that price or look elswhere

Good morning Guru!

If the MSRP is indeed $1,400 and you can get a mint floor model for $795, then I'd say go for it.

Good Morning John

So is the SC-05 better then the VSX-03TXH

What are the major advantages that make it worth 300 bucks more

I just spoke to a few 6th ave stores who sell the SC-05 for $795 but no instructions and no remote..

That sucks....

I might just get the VSX-03TXH for $500 brand new in a box

Thoughts

You can download the owners manual off of the internet, and if you have a universal remote, you would not need the SC-05's remote either. This could work if your circumstances were right........ That is a great price for a relatively brand new SC-05!

Personally I wouldn't pay that much without a remote. You can probably order one from the manufacturer, but for resale and overall value it's key.

well yea the manual is no biggie since I can download it. But the remote was a deal breaker for me since I would love to have it for resale value if I ever get rid of the receiver in the future..

but it is a floor model which is not relatively new per say since who knows how many grubby hands were all over it....LOL

I have an Elite Kuro TV....Would that remote work for the receiver as well

and what do you guys think of the VSX-03TXH

They would sell it to me brand new for $500

Personally I'd pass then...too many "not available" acessories.
