Default Folding@home = PSN $$$

Although I have downloaded Folding@Home I have only used it for approximately 8 hours as I don't like to leave my machine on when I am not playing games or watching a movie (the ps3 gets pretty hot).

Here is my idea, the amount of time spent on Folding@home could equal some kind of credit on the PSN network for downloads that are not free. Perhaps ever 100 hours equals $0.10, something...

Yes, I am looking for an incentive to have the Folding@home on more often. I care about cancer so please no comments on the search for a cure to cancer being incentive enough. Do I get credit if my machine is the one which solves the problem? Can I use the electricity which is being used by the PS3 when Folding@home is on as a tax deduction (donation)?

What does everyone think? I know some of you have it on all the time, others may not even know what it is. Is there a way to get more people to use Folding@home?

Thanks,

Matthew Rounds

PS I wasn't sure where to put this, perhaps blu-ray players is a better choice?

That's a good idea. It should be a tax incentive at the least.

But if it was a PSNetwork bonus, then one hour should equal 25 cents.

This defeats the entire purpose of Folding at Home - they are a non-profit organization conducting medical research...they thank you for your CPU power and that's it.

Hey - you don't have an X-Box 360 that fails so much Microsoft had to extend the warranty on it - you have a PS3 that only has a 1% failure rate - so leave it on and help out the effort...

I bet there is some way to consider the cost of additional electricity used to run the PS3 while doing folding@home, and the power hungry beast it is, as tax deductible.

I won't be surprised at all if Sony does something like this for things where they sell the processing power and then people get credits. But I expect Folding@Home to stay a charity choice.

Actually Sony has been approached by commercial organizations who want to pay them to let PS3s do research for their projects. Sony was looking into this with the idea that gamers could earn games and other stuff by participating. Try Google and you should find some of the info on this from a few months back.
