Question Folding@Home, who uses it??

Just curious if people still do this?

Please take part in the poll, then post comments on your selection.

As for me, I use to a lot. I had both my Ps3's, laptop, and desktop all folding at times. Now, I haven't really done it in months. I have had my PC and one Ps3 folding this weekend, but really haven't at all lately.

And if anyone doesn't know what it is, click HERE.

It's not supposed to be entertaining

Some 54,274 PS3 are considered active. "Active PS3's are defined as those which have returned WUs within 15 days."

It's not supposed to be entertaining??? Then what the heck is the point? I know it's not supposed to be a videogame, but if it's not entertaining (i.e. things to keep your attention, whether it be things to do, ways to interact with other users, etc.) then what's the point? I'm not bashing people who use it, by all means enjoy! Just doesn't interest me.

It's about helping out society by letting your PS3 contribute to research.

I still use F@H fairly often; 24/7 on the PC and around 15-20 hours per week on the PS3.

I also derive a modicum of entertainment from folding; for example, every time I turn it on for the PS3, I look at Iceland. Iceland, you may ask, why? I've noticed that there is one guy or gal in Iceland that seems to be folding almost nonstop. Is there only one PS3 there that runs folding or are there multiples that run in shifts? Will Iceland ever join the ranks of multi-folder nations? The mystery continues.

From an entertainment standpoint, the coolest thing I've seen using F@H was the European launch of the PS3. It was very satisfying to watch the westbound tide of yellow lights roll across Europe as the console was launched in the various countries.

Can someone please explain to me exactly what folding is and how it helps research??
If it's something I can do to help a worthwhile cause then I'm all for it,but just want some further info.

Being in college, I am in class a lot. And, since I don't have to pay for electricity (and hate the college I might add), I run it as much as I can. Last semester I got through 80 calculations, and I hope to do that much this semester, if not more.

Haha, thats funny! I was wondering if when I started this thread if anyone would respond with a comment about how it's "anti-GREEN. I guess not yet. I try not to waste energy, but it's not really wasting it, just wasting money (which is also GREEN) lol.

I pretty much stopped using it when Life with Playstation was launched. Not really sure why. I should probably start doing some more folding, I just wish they'd introduce trophies already. I'd be folding 24/7 for trophies

This may sound a little off the wall but I used to run folding@home all the time. Problem is my PS3 is to close to the thermostat. Long story short, it made the AC run 24/7 in the summer and the heater would never come on in the winter. Just checked for the first time in months and my 154wu's still have me listed on the blu-ray team site at 184.

Sorry to be one of the in actives but I have to keep the place a habitable temperature.

It's the 60gb, my 40gb runs a lot cooler and quieter.

If I'm not mistaken the 40 gb has the new 45nm RSX chips in them. I'm sure that makes a difference. I'm waiting for them to get the cell down from 90nm to 45nm and then I'll swap mine out and probably just give my 60 gb to my brother. Maybe then I can resume my folding.

How do you fold now. I thought I'd fold one since I'm going to be up and it's comfortable now. When you go to life with PlayStation does it automatically start folding in the background?

If so, sucks they changed it. I liked to be able to check up on the progress of my fold.
