I recently read on IMDB that Mark Walhberg will be starring in a sequel to "The Italian Job" called "The Brazilian Job". Maybe when this is released well get a TIJ re-release.

Same here. A re-release would be a blessing. I love the movie, but I sold the BD because the PQ was barely any better than the DVD. It's a shame this had to be such an early release.

its been "in the works" for the longest time..since a year after Italian job was released.

Well, Paramount's first DVD re-issues as special edition remastered releases were The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, and Clear & Present Danger in 2003.

These were first released on DVD in 1998 as non-anamorphic widescreen releases with DD 5.1 & DD 2.0 Surround sound.

So it took five years before Paramount remastered these three films in 16x9 widescreen wtih DTS and DD 5.1 sound.

I'd say its going to be about the same time before the initial BD releases like The Italian Job, Sleepy Hollow, and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider are remastered in AVC/VC-1 with either TrueHD/DTS-HD MA 5.1 sound.

I didn't know the German release was better quality. I held off buying it as well due to poor PQ.

I had this and sold this version as well because I still didn't think it was enough of an upgrade over the DVD. Paramount really needs to do a new HD master for the movie instead of slapping the DVD master onto a Blu-Ray and calling it HD. If you really must have this movie on Blu-Ray though, it is an improvement over the US release. It is indeed region free, btw.

That's a bummer. Thanks for the review, the fact that you sold it off tells me everything there. That's too bad. I've seen the US release and it was awful, I was hoping this German one would have been a marginal improvement.

I originally bought the German import for $26. If it was cheaper, I probably would have kept it, as the PQ is actually a marginal improvement. Detail was slightly better, but there was still a decent amount of dirt/specs left in the print. A marginal improvement for sure, but I'm still expecting more from this since it's not that old. It's still up to you though.

I like the movie but agree the video isn't that great. Since I bought it in a two pack with Shooter at Sam's for $15, I suppose I got my money's worth.
