What is a good bluray player to buy? - Blu-ray Forum

I would like to buy a new blueray player for my husband for his birthday who is a bluray fanatic.... although I don't know what is good and what isn't. I don't want to go to Best Buy or Circut City and ask a sales person cause all they would try to get me to do it buy the most expensive one. Could anyone give me their opinions? Tell me the model number and why I should buy that particular model.

I've owned 4 BD players since 2006. The best blu-ray play by for IMO is the Oppo. I am very happy with this player. It does everything and it does it fast.

I second that, the OPPO BDP-83 is the best bluray player hands down. It will play your whole media library; cd, upconvert dvd, SACD, DVD audio, and of course blurays. The system sells for $499 at their web site which IMO is a good value.

Other than that, I tried out a Panasonic DMP-BD60 briefly, under the misguided belief that it was region-free. Although it turned out to be Region-A only, it seemed to be a really decent player.

I agree with Glassroots and Coolmilo go for the Oppo bdp-83 you or your hubby wont be disappointed

I have to agree...the OPPO BDP-83 is an excellent player...and with the addition of an "easy-to-install" modification, you can have a region free BD/DVD player for under $600.
