Default XLR Cables

Is anyone using Monoprice's balanced cables? From what I've read so far is that XLR connections between prepro to amp is the way to go but I'm looking for cables that would do the job but not break the bank.Any thoughts?

Can you give us an equipment list of your current setup? This may help to answer your question.

Take a look at these: http://cgi.ebay.com/XLR-Balanced-Pur...4.c0.m14.l1262

I have bought two pair of the solid core RCA IC's and a sweet pair of silver 4x4 bi-wire speaker cables from this seller. He's a top notch ebay seller. Product quality is outstanding. Personally, I have found my purchases from Kevin to be first rate values. I have to give props to Rich for turning me on to this seller.

Be aware, he ships from Taiwan. Normally this has been no problem, but I hear that they have been hit by a typhoon this weekend. If you email him before hand he can tell you what the deal is with that.

If you are handy with a soldering iron you could try this.
Came in just under $11 per 3 foot cable, and i'd match them with anything you could buy commercially.

$140 bucks each? I'm really looking for a reasonably priced, bang for the buck cables. So no one uses monoprice XLR cables?

ANIMO, nope I'm not good with a soldering iron, I wish I was though as it would make my choice easier.

Do what you want for your cables. Many swear by Monoprice. However, do you want to use a $7.00 pair of cables between a $2,600 Pre/Pro and a $2,000 amp or use something better?

Rich

I used Beldon XLR cables between my integra prepro and Rotel RMB 1095 amp. got them from blue jeans cables. I had to use a longer run(12 feet). for 5 cables it cost about $180 bucks with shipping.Heck I thought that was pricey, Ive had them about 2 yrs and love them. everything is dead quiet with them.

Exactly!

Btw, Kevin's cables at 140 are a bargain for the quality.

When I was talking to my wife about getting some pricier speakers and cables, she thought I was an idiot for spending that much money.

So, I asked her why it was alright for her to spend almost $400 dollars for a plastic Louis Vuitton bracelet or $3000 for a handbag when she could go to Wal-mart or Target and get one that looks similar but at a fraction of the cost.

She simply responded touche. She doesn't give me as hard a time anymore.

I'd save your money and just use the analog connections. Unless your gear utilizes true "balanced circuitry" that is normally only found in much more expensive brands and models, then you are really just paying for cables with no improvement in SQ.

You can have balanced outputs on a 100 dollar receiver, but it does not mean that you have balanced circuitry to utilize it properly, I'd investigate further before purchasing any cables...

Thats something to think about also, I still have my old analog IC's by Kimber cable which I used with my old Rotel processor.Sounds really good as well and costs a bit more than the Blue Jeans XLR cables, I tried it the the Marantz and it sounds good as well. More food for thought I guess...

Another vote for Musician's Friend XLR Cables.

They worked great on a $100,000+ outdoor concert sound system. I think they'd work just fine on a nice home theater.

I use monoprice XLR cables between my DHC-9.9 and pair of XPA-5s, and couldn't be happier. Anyone who tries to sell you a high-end expensive cable for a 1.5-3ft pre/pro+amp interconnect is a fool. Balanced cables are only needed for relatively long runs in professional environments. In a home theater, with inches between separates, you won't even notice a difference between XLR and RCA. The only reason I went with balanced was because they are only $6 at monoprice.
