HOW impressive is the playstation 3 hardware:

Sony has used more expensive parts for their machine. some one asked how would i know that. well one only needs for example look at just the heat sink an fan...

first the xbox'360's

(2) standard 40 mm fans

they even had to add a 3rd heat sink just one more please...

now the playstation 3's

a plate of heat sinks and a 160mm fan

yea.

but i could put them back together....

i'm a PC repair tech. but in this case someone already did it for me. but i got to see the innards up close and its just awsome. QUALITY parts no doubt about it. not being a fanboy just its a fact

I have to say that is qulity! The fan is really cool too lol. And its put together perfectly too. And looking at the 360, damn, 33% is looking very clear. It looks like an old toy of some sort, but the ps3. Were those parts heavy? They look so.

yes. built like a tank. that plate takes up almost the whole size of the system.
combined with the fan. this thing dissipates heat like a madd dog.AN IBM tech. PUT his playstation 3 he had at the lab next to his laptop and left it running and he left for a little while and his laptop had a thermal shut down. see he cold booted the playstation 3, AND WAS RUNNING SOME TESTS. The ps3's cooling system is top notch. they actually got some big shots to design it for them. It was featured in a design/ engineering magazine we get at my factory. I didn't get a chance to read the whole article. I will get the name of the magazine when I go back to work tomorrow.
As far as quality goes just check the failure rate thread. Oh and just physically pick one up then go pick up a 360. The 360 feels like a flimsy plastic toy. The ps3 feels like a quality electronic piece, like the higher end sony dvd players of old like the DVP-S7700. Nothing about it feels cheap I was actually stunned when I got it out of the box.

i know when i first saw the top of the playstation 3..i thought it was just part of the inner case..i said lets see that heat sink... heat sink i was like is that a cover at first i said that can't be a heat sink. no way. i have realy never seen them that big for such a small case. this was a real eye opener. that and a 160mm fan. 160 mm. in most PC their 40mm's or 90mm. but when i saw that fan i was like how F@c*n big is that the other TECH's .laughed. i just shoock my head. the playstation 3 hardware wise is just fantastic quality.i would not doubt that this has less than 1% failure rate

Same here. I think that's one of the main reasons why PS3 owners like ourselves are quick to defend the console as being one of the best CE products that has ever been produced. It truly is a quality product.

On the other hand the $h!tbox which just had its warranty extended...

No worries as long as the fan is working. It can't grill itself when it's pushing the majority of the heat outside of it.

Nope it can't. Although we see the results when a console isn't capable of pushing the heat out..it does in fact grill itself - repeatedly. Fortunately it's not likely to be someone's PS3.

Folding@Home is the only thing so far that has ever pushed the fan (occasionally) onto it's highest setting in our house..and I know someone that has been running Folding 24/7 pretty well since it was released. Tells me it's still the same temperature as the first day he started.

awesome thread, I was just about to post a thread about getting an inter cooler, my PS3 runs pretty hot after 15 minutes so I was getting worried, especially since its so hot where I live, I also point a fan at my PS3 just incase when its on.

PS3 or Transformer? LOL I love my PS3 just because more people buy 360s right now, doesnt make it better - like everybody knows 33% failure rateto less than 1%

Acturally i think your right, even tho my ps3 has got VERY hot, all the air is being blasted out the side and i had no ps3 problems left, it is truly a good design especially when it runs at high temps but can handle the heat.
