The ps3's cooling system is top notch. they actually got some big shots to design it for them. It was featured in a design/ engineering magazine we get at my factory. I didn't get a chance to read the whole article. I will get the name of the magazine when I go back to work tomorrow.
As far as quality goes just check the failure rate thread. Oh and just physically pick one up then go pick up a 360. The 360 feels like a flimsy plastic toy. The ps3 feels like a quality electronic piece, like the higher end sony dvd players of old like the DVP-S7700. Nothing about it feels cheap I was actually stunned when I got it out of the box.
