Default Distance from floor?

I have a 65" plasma coming, how high up from the floor should the bottom of the screen be?

I put mine on my TV stand and put 2x4's under it until it was where I wanted it. I then mounted it on the wall a little higher and titled it down a little. It's up high enough for a center channel to sit on the stand under it.

This is an interesting question. My set is situated on a TV stand which places it so that my eyes are about mid-way between the top and bottom of the screen. I have read that this is the ideal, but I've never really read much discussion about it. I suppose that's because it's fairly subjective. I have a two-story family room and could mount my TV 20 feet above the floor, if I wanted to, but I'm not insane. Some might want more of a movie theater experience sitting in one of the front rows looking up, but it probably won't be much of a difference in actual viewing experience. The biggest difference will be achieved by how far away you sit from the screen. That makes a BIG difference. I would shoot for eye level or slightly above. I like MrFattBill's idea of trying it at various levels before you mount it.

Don't forget to take your seating configuration into account. If you're like me, you sit directly in front of the tv, reclined. Any typical tv stand would put the display way too low for a reclined seating position - your head or eyes would have to be tilted down, which would become very uncomfortable.

I went considerably higher than a typical stand. Check out my gallery - it's perfect when I'm reclined. The bottom of the screen is four feet off the floor. It doesn't look that high in the pix because the a/v cabinet is taller than normal.

Personally, I like to be eye level with the bottom of the bezel. To me, it's less strenous (sp?) on the neck and more theatrical-like.

The bottom of my TV is about 42 inches from the floor. This allows my stand and center channel to be situated under it without obstructing the view and IR control.
