Default Floor vs Surround

Would using floor speakers as rear speakers in a 5.1 setup be superior to using the surround speakers? I am speaking of the Klipsch reference series specifically. I noticed on their website that their reccommended systems all make use of surround speakers. I use my system primarily for watching movies if that makes a difference. Also in the reference series what would you reccommend for use with an Onkyo 705?

Thanks in advance.

use surrounds, Dipoles if possible....

Towers would be better for multi-channel music, but then again, Klipsch is more suitable for movies rather than music.....

Regardless, stick with dipoles.

I disagree with the above. Towers are the best. If i was able to have all towers, id do it!

As always it depends on what you like, how big the room is and on and on and on. Both dipoles and towers have been praised for sonic quality ! I like movies and concert blu rays so I would side with the towers. That is if I could afford another 1,500 for my rear speakers

Personally, I agree with what Beta Man said. Get bi-poles for your surrounds and towers for your fronts. They're more directional.

id actually go for surrounds.

even if id like to have all of my speakers identical, pushing most of em as ideally as bookshelves from LR Center and surrounds, instead of floorstanders.

my reasons are simple.
1. timbre matched to a tee, no challenges there.
2. much more cost efficient, compared to having all floorstanders
3. i dont think there would be a huge need for having surrounds as floorstanding, since they dont really have that much load compared to the soundstage. it would be benificial to have quality surrounds that can at least handle the lower spectrum of certain media

Dipole / bi pole, tower, surround, or all bookshelf speakers.

With Klipsch it really doesn't matter. One thing about these speakers, although most complain they are bright, they have zero problems filling a room with sound.

My 7.1 setup that I have packed away collecting dust since I just upgraded was 6 of the RSX-4 surrounds, 1 RCX-4 center and an RPW-10 sub.

About the only thing you gain from going bigger is loudness. And even that was not an issue to me using all bookshelf speakers.

I have a pair of level 2 towers for L R and L R surround. 4 towers from HTD.
I love it no mounts or stands to mess with. All evenly matched heights. Now when i actually go 7.1 i will probably get some surrounds for the Back L R channels.

Wow it seems that the field is mostly split on this one and it comes down to personal preference. I will probably just buy 4 floorstanders and 2 surrounds and try them both out in my home. Thanks for the input everyone.

Lol! Nah I will return them to london drugs. My brother works there and his discount is cost plus 5% and since the price of the speakers are about 300-350% inflated for retail I can afford to buy them all and test them at home. And since he's working there I can return them whenever I want, hell I even return my years old DVD's and exchange for the full price whenever a blu-ray comes out that I own on DVD.

Get this answer....Bi-poles or Di-poles, each speaker connected to a passive subwoofer at the speaker level !
