Anyone seen this lately?

I watched it last night and I think it is a great transfer! I have heard so much flack and negativity about it but honestly it is great. It looks like film on screen! I can't believe how wonderful it was to watch. The blacks were proper, the grain was wonderful and the detail was great.

Anyone else agree?

100% agree. It looks stunning.
Trivia:
No character was allowed to wear red other than Dracula. The one exception was Elizabeth when she had dinner with Dracula.

It is a decent looking transfer, with a different color timing than had been previously seen on home video. It is definitely worth a purchase, if one is a fan or has an interest in all things Dracula.

I disagree. It was one of the worst look Blu Rays I have ever seen. It was dull and not sharp. All the colors looked faded. It looked like a really old VHS version.

Yes I do agree, the negativity was grainaphobia.

Dracula is one of my favourite movies, with a fantastic acting job by my favourite actor, Gary Oldman. This Blu looks fantastic, the costumes look incredible as well, people who say it looks bad are just scared of some sexy grain. This is where I got a crush on Wynona as a young lad , also for people interested in commentaries Coppola is very informative and for me was incredibly interesting. He talks about how during the opening sequence, they had such little amount of money, that it was practically a puppet show. I love finding out little things like that, and also that was one of my favourite movie introductions, looked pretty damn good for a puppet show. Then again I bet Francis Ford Coppola would direct one mighty fine puppet show

This is a very filmlike transfer and was approved by FFC. It looks exactly how it's supposed to look.

The US release needs a new transfer. The current one still looks like the upconverted dvd version.

Popped it in for a few minutes last night, in the majority of scenes it really is no better than upconverted DVD.

I thought the transfer helped give the intended feel of the movie and worked well in that sense. I agree with the "grainaphobia" statement made; it seems that some want sharp images and eye busting colors in every Blu-ray transfer. It could be that grain can be used as a tool.

Count me in the disappointed transfer crowd. I don't believe for most people grain was the issue, but the main issue was changing the color timing and making the detail darker therefore robbing the picture of detail.

I purchased this for $10 in one of why "what the hell?" moods. I love the movie and since I perplexingly don't have it on DVD, I decided to pick up the BD.

I honestly loved the transfer. Yes, it's darker than the movie has ever been before and many of the colours were desaturated. However, it fit the mood and tone of the movie. Also, check out the special features. The movie was intended to resemble an old movie that was made back when the story takes place. The new colour timing and lower overall brightness fit the intended tone of the movie. As for how soft the image is, this movie was shot with soft focus. No amount of remastering will ever make it sharper.

Well I put you nay sayers to the test. A friend of mine owned Dracula on DVD. He brought it over and we compared a few of the wonderful scenes.

THE BLU-RAY BLOWS IT OUT OF THE WATER.

It looks so spectacular and there is so much more going on. In the DVD it basically just looked like black and light. There was no grades of shadows. In the Blu you get infinite amount of darks and blacks. It just looks spectacular.

The image does look soft compared to some titles but as others have said that is intended. The DVD looks a lot softer actually and there is no detail in the faces.

Is the Blu reference to impress your friends? I don't think it is but is it the most accurate and director approved version of the film for the home? For sure!

I cannot find this for $10.00 or any price anywhere. Where did you pick it up for $10?
