Default questions on downloading than buying?

ok i hope im going to get ridiculed for this. i am wondering whats you thoughts on downloading a bluray movie before buying it, i mean if there is a new movie you havnt seen and reluctant to buy it but you download it liked it and bought it, is this bad.

the thing i dont get is you go to video store you rent a movie and all that money is going to the movie store and not the movie companies so your sorta taking out the middle man.

i always buy movies i like, but with movies i dont know anything about i hate to spend 5$ and buy it latter anyways. its just wasted money.

and please dont say 1 download = 1 loss sale, because its not true.

#1) You're not downloading a bluray. You're downloading something of lower quality.

#2) You're still paying money for the download unless you're doing it illegally.

#3) You can always buy the movie and trade it if you don't like it. The trading forums here are very good.

yeah i know its not the exact bluray but i cant tell the difference between a 720p rip and a bluray disc.
2. is there anyother way to download movies for free legally?
3. yeah the trading is a good idea but your still out of money for a movie you dont like.

You either feel one way or the other. And the two groups aren't about to switch sides anytime soon...

Also this site does not allow discussion of "pirating".

That's how it works, you pay to see the film if interested. Period. If you're not renting or purchasing, you're stealing.

I want to get this in before the thread is locked for talking about downloads:

You're incorrect on this point.

I know for a fact that Blockbuster {and a few other video rental companies} have deals now in place with regards to their rentals that they split the cost of the rental between themselves and the companies that send them the movie.

Example if Fox sends Blockbuster copies of XO:Wolverine, whenever that movie gets rented, 1 dollar goes towards the shipping etc. costs dealing with the movie, and everything else gets split down the middle with regards to the company that rents stuff out and the studio {in this case Fox}

Now under the old system, in which you still assume that the studios don't get paid for rentals, you'd still be wrong.

The old system was that say Fox would charge $40-$50 per copy in order for a company to purchase the rights to rent out a movie. That's quite a bit more than an average release for someone who wants to buy it for home use.

So either way, the studios get their fair share of the money involved in rentals.

Isn't it?

If you download the movie and then turn around and not buy it as a result, that's one lost sale is it not?

so its stealing when a friend invites you to their place to watch a movie.
or when you bought a movie and you kids or parents watch it with you.
in that regard everyone watching the movie should pay a fee

You know exactly what I mean. You're trying to justify pirating movies for your personal entertainment and I don't agree with it. Have a nice day.

Have you read the legal bit at the beginning of the movie? It says the movie was sold for private display only. Showing a movie publicly or to a paying audience without proper licensing is illegal.

When you download a movie you are stealing. There is no way for you to rationalize your actions. You are robbing people of their product without paying for it, plain and simple.

Both sides of what?

Stealing?

That's like asking people if it's OK to willingly drink and drive and thinking that people would see both sides.

actually it is ok to drink and drive you cant use that as an argument, because you are allowed to have a couple drinks before you get in a car.

so please have a better argument than that

A one sided argument? You're just looking to get your @$$ reamed on this site aren't you? The problem with your argument is you don't want to pay for entertainment. You think downloading the movie and watching it isn't entertainment? It is. Same goes with renting. Support the industry you like.

Your argument is weak and your trying to use diversion and nitpicking to justify not paying for something that you should. Time to crawl out of the parents comfy, cablenet ready basement and enter the world.

wtf is up with this entitlement generation?

The only part of the argument that supports the film company not getting money for the rental is through red box and netflix because they buy their material from retail stores and not from the studios themselves. Thus why their service is so cheap. I would say just get the cheapest unlimited netflix account. If you get more than like 4 movies a month it pays for its self.

What does speeding or watching music videos have to do with downloading a movie and watching it for free? What are you trying to justify?

Stop trying to compare apples and oranges. Your argument is weak. Why do you think you are entitled to free movies? What makes you so special?
