Default Discreet Audio vs HDMI

Have not posted here in a while. I am hoping to get some real good discussion. I have searched off and on regarding this topic for a while now. I am looking at opinions on this area. I know 99% of you go with HDMI for your Audio and Video, the blu-ray player will decode and then it is recognized by your processor or receiver.

So for audio purity is this the best way to go? or.... Having your HDMI for strictly Video quality and then using 7.1 Discreet analogue connections to your processor the best way for audio quality? The reason I am asking this is because I have never really seen anyone on here using this method.

One reason I am asking is I am taking a real liking to the Sunfire TGP-401 processor. (I have always liked Sunfires Theatre Grands)

I am thinking if the blu-ray player does all the decoding anyway. What is the purpose of letting the processor do the same thing or am I missing something here?
