Default Documentaries, In your Opinion...

Besides the documentary "Planet Earth" and the art film "Baraka", what are some of your favorite documentaries/art films that are both visually stunning and sound (sound is relative, some seem to go cheap on the sound) amazing? What's been your experience? I would love your opinion. I am looking to expand my Blu collection in these genre's! Thanks!

I'm a big fan of Relentless Enemies, if but nothing other than hearing Scar talk about lions and their day to day struggles! The PQ is nice, not top-tier, however.

I hear Galapagos has breathtaking visuals and is a good documentary, yet only stereo audio.

Yeah, I've been going through the documentaries here on Blu-ray.com and I am saddened that the audio on most of these are lacking. But in a way that does not really matter, its all about the visuals. Galapagos looks like it would be breathtaking. I think I will drop the coin on it!

Hmm, outside of what you mentioned I don't know that there really is much else available in terms of the audio department. However, if you ever just want some great documentary's I would be happy to help!

Galapagos is indeed quite stunning, highly recommended.

Some of the IMAX blu-rays I enjoy. Sure, they're short (40 mins approx), but are interesting. A few IMAX BD's I have:

Dolphins - music by Sting

Hurricane On The Bayou - they were actually shooting an IMAX film on the swamplands of Louisiana when Hurricane Katrina hit. The music is amazing.

Alaska: Spirit of the Wild

Alaska: Spirit of the Wild looks amazing, having been born there it would be great to re-experience that amazing state! Unfortunately its only 40 minutes!

Riding Giants. Its a doc. about the history and the evolution of surfing. I hope this doc. makes its way onto Blu ray sometime soon.

That would be a stunning Blu!! I don't know what they call it but when the surfer is in the "shoot" would be simply amazing to see! Now that would be some impressive footage!

You'll have to import it from the United Kingdom, but Grizzly Man is a sensational and fascinating documentary that just recently received a Blu-ray release. Gimme Shelter is another great documentary that is coming out on Blu-ray shortly.

Cool, I remember watching Grizzly Man on TV several years back, quite fascinating and a sad story!

I love Ken Burns' documentaries (Baseball, Civil War, The War, The West, etc), but I don't think anyone of those is out on blu yet. The new one National Parks I heard was good but lacks in the PQ department, which is too bad.

First of all, Baraka is not a documentary . With that out of the way...

Home is excellent MQ/PQ/AQ.

Lack of a proper sub-group (Non-verbal film/Art-house film).

I absolutely would categorize it as a documentary properly defined as:
adj: emphasizing or expressing things as perceived without distortion of personal feelings, insertion of fictional matter, or interpretation; "objective art"
