First of all, Baraka is not a documentary . With that out of the way...

Home is excellent MQ/PQ/AQ.

Lack of a proper sub-group (Non-verbal film/Art-house film).

I absolutely would categorize it as a documentary properly defined as:
adj: emphasizing or expressing things as perceived without distortion of personal feelings, insertion of fictional matter, or interpretation; "objective art"

Your definition is exactly why Baraka is largely NOT considered a documentary. It is an essay on humanity and its effect on the planet. It is usually considered a non-verbal film, or art-house film. Art, as in subjective art...as in there is some level of interpretation of the message in Baraka. The Spirit of Baraka clearly distinguishes between non-verbal films and documentaries.

I will concede you can fit it into the absolute broadest definition of a documentary, but it's not accurate IMO.

I would not concede that. Baraka is an art film, not a documentary. It doesn't educate. It doesn't explain what you are looking at. It presents images in an attempt to stir emotions.

I have to laugh whenever people lump Planet Earth and Baraka in the same sentence. They are both great BD eye candy, but that is where the similarities end. Many disappointed blind buy purchasers of Baraka on this board that thought they were getting Planet Earth...The Sequel....

For All Mankind is an amazing documentary of the NASA Apollo program, with some Mercury missions as well. I wouldn't pass that up.

Jeeze, I didn't want to stir any hidden emotions between Planet Earth and Baraka. I blind bought it and I knew it was nothing like Planet Earth. I new it had great visuals like previous poster has stated but I new that there were no words, only music to convey the story the writer wanted portrayed.

These NASA ones have my interest but hesitate with the old footage they shot and wonder if it is worth a Blu or just a DVD buy.

I can't believe that the Ken Burns National Parks doc has an SRP of $129.99 and the PQ is as bad as it is.

What the hell is PBS thinking?
