I just bought a new LG BD-390 blu-ray player. I love it, but when I play DVDs (just the regular ones so far), the audio stops intermittently and I have to turn off the receiver and turn it back on to get it to return. I would think its the receiver, but I never had this problem in the previous 5yrs it was plugged into a regular DVD player. Do you think the new bu-ray player is at fault? Has anyone else had this problem?
thanks Dan |

The blu-ray player is plugged into a new LG BD-390 HDTV via HDMI. Then audio is sent out of the TV via regular component audio cables to a standard Panasonic theater in a box receiver thats about five yrs old (dont have it in front of me to check the model).

It sounds like the TV doesn't like the audio being passed to it. I don't see where you can configure the Blu-ray player to turn off audio from the HDMI and output the audio from the component of the player. My Sony does it but it may not be a feature of this player, maybe someone who has the same player knows how to do this but I don't see it my quick checks of the manual.

Interesting. I suppose I could do just component video to from the player to the TV and do the audio from the player straight to the receiver. Do you think I should consider just replacing the blu-ray player?

Component will still give you a very good picture, HDMI is better but I doubt most would notice. Replacing it is up to you and depends on what you're looking for as far as features and the price range. Stay away from Samsung, in my opinion, as they seem to be more problematic and slow on the draw for firmware upgrades.

Now that I've had time to look at your manual a little closer and if you feel like playing around with it some more I have another option for you. It looks like you can set the HDMI out to PCM Stereo (sorry, I should have thought of that the first time) for the way your hooking it up. I would think your TV would pass that no problem. Your not going to get multichannel this way but the way you have it hooked up you won't anyway.
I'm not sure what your setup is or what you have for a receiver, as well as inputs, but if you want multichannel it would be better to hook up the video via composite and the audio via optical to the receiver if it's available. I'd like to say hook it up via HDMI and optical but I believe HDMI takes precedence and it won't output audio to both. I have to say if your not listening to multichannel audio your really missing out. Just my 2 cents. ![]() |

I used to have a similar problem with my LG DVD player. For some reason it just really did not like being used with an HDMI cable. I could run everything though component and it would work fine but if I tried HDMI the video and audio would cut out randomly from time to time.

Well its all set then. I believe I have my solution. I look forward to setting it up that way tomorrow. djc11369 thanks a lot for looking into this, and solarrdadd for confirming that I'm not the only one in the world who had this issue!
