I have a 20GB PS3 that I purchased a long time ago, and I've been using it and have not had a single problem with it ever. I did notice before sometimes the audio was "off" like if you watched lips move the words weren't exactly on.
I have a Samsung 50" DLP and Samsung reciever for surround sound. I have the PS3 connecting to the TV via HDMI, and then TV to the reciever. My roomate hooked up my PS3 to his 42" LG LCD once and had to "reset" the settings to get video output via HDMI. Ever since this was "reset" whenever I hook the PS3 up to my TV, the audio will cut out during blu ray movies. Games are not affected by this at all. Has anyone heard of this, and what is the fix? Should I have it set up differently? Thanks Eric |

Check your sound settings via HDMI. I assume that's how you got it connected : PS3->TV->Receiver.

Sometimes the advanced processing required for these HD audio codecs takes longer than it should, and the "syncing" gets off. There is a Lip Sync function built into HDMI, but last I heard, the PS3 did not support it. It might be something your receiver is causing, so take a look at that to see if you can fix it there.

i've experienced the same thing, but unfortunately did not find any answers on this web site or any other. and it has nothing to do with connections. connections are fine and the BD are fine as well.
like yours, the audio just drops out for no reason for like a second or 2, and then comes back. it's really annoying. |

I know it is VERY annoying . . . I have played with about every setting. Thing I don't understand is it has NEVER done this until now. I tried removing my surround sound from the mix and just did PS3 > TV and it still had the issue. I tried different HDMI ports and HDMI cables on the mix too. . . I hope someone knows how to resolve the issue!

I have the same issue as well: the sound will cut out for a second or two when I am watching a movie. I have noticed it for Blu-ray discs for sure, but I am not sure if it also happens for regular DVDs. Game play audio does not seem to be affected.
I have my PS3 connected to my TV via HDMI. However, I have an optical audio connection from the PS3 to my receiver. I don't use the TV speakers at all for audio, only the receiver. Anyone find a solution since this thread was originally posted? Thanks. |

I have pretty much the same issue. Some BDs while I am watching them, the reciever seems to lose the audio signal and the video starts to stutter. Sometimes, if I pause the movie and wait a few seconds it corrects itself, sometimes not. I do not think this is a random occurance because it will do it in the same spots of only certain movies. The first season of Spartacus is one of them. It never did it the first couple times I watched it. I had a hard time getting it to play Thor 3-D. The movies that I have had this problem with are: Your Highness, Sanctum 3-D, Spartacus Season 1, Thor 3-D, and Ocean's 12.
I have an old fat 80gig PS3 and a Sony reciever (can't remember the model at this time, I will look later and edit) I think this is a very annoying problem and I have no idea on how to correct it. Any input would be very appreciative. |

I don't know if this helps you guys at all, but I remember reading about this:
If [Bitstream (Direct)] is selected, some portions of the audio content may not be output. http://manuals.playstation.net/docum...ings.html#1470 |

Yeah,...
I was going to say start buy setting audio to PCM. That may fix it. I used a 60GB since Nov 06 (had to swap it once with Sony for another with the extended warranty) and only recently got a AVR that does all the HD codecs so I've been using PCM forever. the PCM likely still works perfectly. I don't need the AVR to show DTS MA on the little screen because I turn off the AVR screen anyway. -Brian Last edited by bhampton; 09-23-2011 at 09:56 AM. |
