Default Media Go

I was using this last night and it was a nightmare.. All I wanted to do was put an avi video file on to my PSP. I thought these were compatible files with the PSP so I first tried to just drag and drop on to the PSP (in to the video folder) via 'My Computer'. When transferred - in less than 2 minutes - it told me the file was not supported.

I tried Media Go. I imported the video in to my library then selected, right click, and 'transfer to device'. I selected my connected PSP.

I believe Media Go converts files to their best format for perfect viewing on the PSP? Well it did that (I think) and then started the transfer process. After waiting 45 minutes, the transfer was only 22% complete! Crazy!! The file is only 350mb approx. My laptop is only a few months old so easily has the processing power to cope with what I believe should be a straight forward task.

Is Media Go always this slow?

Anyone know why the avi wasn’t supported in the first place? I also tried converting to MP4 and when I dropped that on my PSP it said the same thing 'unsupported data'

.avi is a container format. Whatever encoding format is "inside" that container is what the PSP needs to support. That's why people sometimes get some .avi files that work and others that don't.

My MediaGo works pretty well, but I found the application sorta buggy. It freezes a lot if I ever try and do more than 1 thing at a time (ie: find SenseMe stats, and transfer at the same time would cause major issues).

It was a while ago, I opened a call with Sony about it, can't remember what they said anymore.

I also transfered a full movie to my PSP and had no problem with transfer speeds, not sure what to tell ya.

PSP only supports certain resolutions. Maybe the file had to be re-encoded which can take lots of time with any type of computer (generally.)

Ok, so let me start again. I understand that the Media Go 'syncs' your PSP much like iTunes with your iPod right?

So I should transfer all my video folders in to Media Go yeah? If I had a new video at any stage to one of my video folders, will it automatically show in my Media Go Library? When I want to add a video to my PSP memory stick I should just go to my library and select the video to transfer to my PSP, correct? As the transfer of the video took so long last night, I am terrified to imagine how long it would take to import my video folders in to my Library.

Also, my memory stick is quite small so am I correct is saying that you are able to take a game file off your memory stick and put it in to your Library? Then transfer it back on to your memory stick whenever you want it? This would save me downloading from the Playstation Store again right? I know you can download something 5 times, but this would save me using one of my 5 downloads yeah?

Going back to my problem with the speed, it is really frustrating to hear you don’t have any such problems so I will have to play around with it tonight to figure that out. Are you saying that this should only take a matter of minutes?

The reason why it took a long time is due to converting the file to be viewable on the PSP. Also, the larger the file, the longer it'll take to convert.

Is anybody else's PS Store not working right now?
"This service is not available in your country/region."
Even on MediaGo it's not working.

Never tried personally, but the 5 system rule means you can download as many times as you want on 5 different systems, not 5 times total.

When I did my transfer, I synced everything. All the music on my computer is on my PSP and vice versa. haven't added anything since, but I believe it will automatically add music to your library and sync whichever way it needs to go PC <-> PSP.

You must have a pretty big memory card if all your music is on your PSP? Mine is only 2gb so I will have to upgrade.

I must look in to getting a card at least that size.. Thanks!

By importing your video files to the Media Go Library, does it create a "duplicate" file on your hard drive and thus take up the same space again on your hard drive?

No I believe it makes links to them or just reads them from where they are, I can't remember anymore.

I got two 8GB SD micro sticks and a pro duo adapter. It ended up costing my about $45 for all that. Much cheaper than a 16GB Pro Duo stick.

HOWEVER, if you want digital copies of your movies to work on your PSP, I don't think you can do this. The PSP system recognizes my stick as a "fake" one, so none of my digital copies will copy over to my PSP. Found that out later.
