Default BD BC Optiarc 5500 Downgrade Firmware question

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NS290J computer and in it I believe the computer has a optiarc 5500S BD player and so I went to the sony site and got the firmware upgrade which is 1.77 that is what they told me to download a while ago and then I go to optiarc and they list the newest firmware is only 1.06 that came out recently. So I was wondering if my firmware is wrong and will I need to download the 1.06 since when I try downgrading to it I can't seem to get it to download the firmware. Also I have been experience problems playing new blu-ray's on my drive like Land of the lost and Transformers so I figured it was my firmware that is doing it. Am I completely out of luck or is there a way to fix it and to get my firmware downgraded. thanks for any help.
