I'm having a problem with a couple of BD-Rs I burned with my LG burner. The BD-Rs are Memorex, a brand that had served me well in DVDs, but I don't think I'll be using it anymore because one BD-R I burned a few months ago, which used to play perfectly well in both my Sony BDP-S300 and the burner, now is absolutely useless. In the Sony player it will just try to load for a long time until the display shows 'Can't play disc' or something like that, and the LG burner also tries to read it forever and eventually it gives up.
Now, the other problem that I have is that the other few BD-Rs I burned also with the LG, and which at the time I burned them used to play perfectly fine in the Sony, now play with a lot of stutter, however, they play fine in the LG burner using the Cyberlink player that came with it. These are made with files that came from Sony Vegas Pro 8 encoded to MPEG-2 at 40 Mbps CBR, which were tested first with my Sony BD-RE, and then burned onto the Memorex media, and tested at that time on the Sony player with no problems. I was not sure if this stutter is another problem created by the cheap Memorex media, so I used Imgburn to extract one the BD-Rs to an image file that then I could burn to the Sony BD-RE, and when I finally finished all that and put the Sony BD-RE in the Sony BDP-S300, it played with the same stutter. Logic here tells me that the problem might be in the latest firmware update for the BDP-S300, since at the time of burning those discs and play them with no problems in it, the firmware was 4.30, and only recently I updated to 4.50. So I need to know if I can downgrade the firmware in this player to the previous version, and if that doesn't work, to downgrade to an even earlier version. Thanks, Last edited by sebasd5; 05-26-2009 at 01:52 AM. |

It probably wouldn't hurt. I'm using v4.4 with no issues, so give that a try.

Why not just burn a CD with the older firmware and load it into your player? See what happens then. If you don't get the option to "update" the firmware, you'll have the answer to your question.
Whatever happens, please post what you come up with. I'm sure others would be interested in knowing. |

If you would've read my post you would see that I never mentioned that these were movies, whether I copied them or not. You can also see that I mentioned the files came from Sony Vegas Pro 8, a video editing software. The files I'm talking about are videos that I shot myself, edited in Vegas Pro 8 and encoded to MPEG-2 at 40 Mb/s CBR.
