Default New firmware Version 2.60 for Sony bdp-S300

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...=2981&os_id=99

This utility updates the BDP-S300 firmware to version 2.60, and Improves BD-Java compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs

Just in time for Fantastic 4 ROTSS which is BD-J heavy. Too bad they haven't included audio upgrades yet.

Ok, downloaded and tested the 2.6 on the bdp-s300. Tryed out some discs that zip through on my ps3 but kinda clunked along in the s300 in the past:

Behind Enemy lines
POTC DMC

WOW is all I can say, this plays them and cycles through the menu's just like the ps3 now...lickity split. No hanging up, no slow responses...just smooth navigation. This is how a second Gen Player is Supposed to be!

So how long is the load time for POTC now?

I didn't time it, because i was on the phone while I was playing with it....but it seems faster. the circle dots on BHL and spinning key pirates seemed to spin faster and for not nearly as long. I'll time them a lil later on tonight.

I just installed 2.6 on my player. It probibly cut about 30 seconds off the load time for POTC DMC. I didn't really notice any other changes in navigation, but like I said before, i'm sure this upgrade along with all the other players recent firmware is going to help with FF Rotss and it's games.

suprised you didn't notice how much smoother the menu's function now on BD-Java based discs like POTC DMC for example. You can navigate now with ease, as you should be able to. before it would miss, then skip two etc.

Actually I never really noticed the problems that others had complained about. I usually just pop in the movies and play though, not much for extras or skipping around.

Maybe yours had 2.1 (just a guess) the menus weren't unbareable before, but noticeably glitchy/laggy. Now they work smooth like the ps3.

Excellent! Looking forward to upgrading tonight. Does it really take up to 30 minutes to write?

Question My (scary) 2.60 update experience...

You will burn a .ISO file to a DVD. Don't burn as a data disc and be sure to finalize it. See Sony's full firmware update instructions.

Firstly, I expected it to take the full 30 minutes. It ran no more than 15 minutes. A service call to Sony concluded that going from 2.0 to 2.60 is indeed a faster upgrade than upgrading from 1.0. More on the call later.

The disc update went for 8 minutes when it ejected and turned off. Not wanting to disturb the machine, I waited but it never turned back on. So I did the unthinkable and turned it on. The status message showed the update was continuing so I left the disc in and it closed the tray and continued. Not a few minutes later, same thing happened. Now I am nervous. But I noticed the status message said "D/L OK". So I removed the disc and power up. I check for the new firmware, and appears to have installed perfectly.

Here is where it gets strange. I inserted POTC: TCotBP and timed it on a stop watch from when the word "load" appears. Add about 15 seconds from the tray closing to the time "load" appears. It took 2:18. I was rather impressed recalling it took a full 3 minutes+ earlier to see the first pic. Now the strange part. The movie played fine but the popup menu was SLOW AS A SLUG. Seconds passed before it would respond and do simple things like highlight a new scene. Same for POTC 2. Now a little more panic set in. On the plus side, POTC 1 did not get stuck when I tried to eject it as it has always done before. Little consolation considering.

I turned it off, ran to get other movies and and timed it when I turned it back on. Still needs 44 seconds to warm up. No biggie. I try all my other movies and they are working great. Menus did seem to have a bit more snap to them. I try POTC 1 and 2 again, and this time they load faster, and the menu functions are normal! WOO HOO! Apparently turning the unit off and on again may have helped fully reset it.

Here are the load times I am getting now. Add 11 to 15 second average just for the tray closing and spinning up. Most take about 30 seconds total.

(Who has 2.0 comparisons? Timed from the word "load" appearing to first image.)
300: 00:17
Ghost Rider: 00:15
Monster House: 00:12
5th Element: 00:14
TMNT: 00:13
Planet Earth: 00:11

POTC 1: 1:41 (2:18 when it ran slow)
POTC 2: 1:26

In my call to Sony complaining about the slowness they told me it was running normally if everything else was ok. As for POTC they told me to try another POTC from a friend. As if I had any with blu-ray! Told them that wasn't an option. At this point, the lady could tell me nothing except that I had successfully loaded the update. I politely hung up with her. But when I tried them again, they worked!

While it did make me nervous, I am now happy to have done the upgrade. Bring on Fantastic 4 one and two!

Hello,
I am the owner of a US Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Disc Player (2.0 firmware version). Sony USA has released a 2.60 firmware upgrade to this player. Unfortunately I can not burn it on a DVD (I have neither a DVD nor a CD drive with disc burning capability) and Sony does not ship DVDs with the update outside the US (I live in Italy). So I would be grateful if someone who owns such upgrade could ship it to me. Needless to say, I would pay for all expenses.
Thanks for your attention
