Hi, I'm a newbie on this forum and an oldie - so please be patient!!
Have just installed an LG - GGW-H20L unit in my pc. No problem so far - installed the Cyberlink software and updated it - now version 7.3 Built my pc a while back current spec Intel Quad core Q6700 - 4GB ram, ATI HD4850 GPU running XP Pro. Using Nero 9 with BD plug in - extra £5 - really annoying - apparently Nero does not play BluRay discs even more annoying. Anyway Tried playing BluRay DVD and HD DVD with Cyberlink to no avail - Burned my own video file onto BD-RW with Nero and can't play it back! Card is supposed to be compliant but didn't think that mattered with non protected DVD's. Can play standard DVD's OK Currently have DVI-I connections to 2 PC monitors, but when trying the bought BD DVD had one side of card connected to a compliant monitor. Switched to VGA exit card still no joy. When I run the Cyberlink software I can see it accessing the drive and then the software just shuts down if I persist it will reboot the pc. Any help would be appreciated. John |

What version of PowerDVD are you running,7.3 I know, but you will need the ULTRA version to play Bluray...
I'm running V9 ULTRA on a Windows XP Home PC, also home built, i7 Core 4 and Nvidia 9600 GT graphics... Works great..Are ALL your connected components HDCP compliant? I had to update my monitor, nice full 1920 x 1080HD model..Also running same LG player as yours... Seems like your PowerDVD may be the weak link if not ULTRA version.. |

Hi, Thanks for the replies.
I had run the BD advisor and it told me the monitor was not complient and to upgrade my video drivers - Monitor is complient but new model and drivers are up to date. - Hence the trial on VGA - still no play on bluray. When I open my Cyberlink software as supplied by LG with the drive - it has Ultra splashed over it and in the little tickertape says PowerDVD BD+HD 2CH. Tried talking to LG - They promised to ring back in an hour - 2days ago! Forgot to mention - have BluRay disc that I burned with a friend who will check it out on his system which does play them. HDCP doesnt like dealing with dual monitors
unplug one of them and give that a shot |

Hi, Thanks again for the comments - had tried one monitor before, still no luck. The BD-RW I had burned was ok on my friends machine, he could only get it to run on the Cyberlink trial of PowerDVD9 - So I did the same and it actually started to read the disc, then after about 20% the programme shutdown!
Went through the video drivers again, currently updating my audio drivers, taking forever to download from ASUS site. Thanks agin, John |

OK - Current setup - deleted video drivers and reinstalled. Primart output of video card connected via DVI-I VGA adaptor and VGA cable to monitor
Checked with BD-advisor and it still has a red dot at the video drivers and non compliant HDCP monitor. Drivers are latest from ATI website I'm beginning to suspect there is some other software/hardware conflict. I can (using PowerDVD9 trial) get the BD disc to load but after apprpx 20% loading the programme closes - no error code. |

Hi, Was initially connected to an liyama E2407HDS-B1 ProLite 24" job, this was deemed to be HDCP compliant. It was connected to the Primarty card output via DVI-I cable - no result.
Because of all the HDCP issues, i am trying to get the software to run on VGA until I get it running then I can move back to DVI-I. The monitor I normally work on is a dual Dell setup 1907FP's Have been communicating with Cyberlink & Nero - managed to actually get a playback on Nero9 last evening - but haven't been able to repeat it. Cyberlink have given me a cleanout operation and reinstall links for the PowerDVD 7.3 that came with the drive - but this has the same effect as before - Version 9 of PowerDVD is the only one that attempts to read and 'load' the disc, but the just closes the program. Wondering if it's XP? Cyberlink have asked for a few files to be sent 'BD advisor' and Directx info. Have sent and await reply. |

Cyberlink have suggested I set my monitor at 1920x1080 32Bit 60Hz.
Tried this on Primary card output only on Ilyama monitor as before - still same problems. |

Have you installed the driver for the iiyama monitor? If you haven't, you will need to. Once this is done, go to the Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Monitor, then update the monitor with the iiyama driver. Return to the Control Panel, then go to Display -> Settings; under the Display: drop-down list, the iiyama monitor should be displayed as the primary monitor, but make sure it does not specify analog in parentheses (because you need a pure digital connection). Shut down the PC and DELL monitor(s), unplug the monitor(s), then plug in the iiyama monitor; turn on the power. If nothing shows up while the PC is booting, it's an indication that a signal between the video card and monitor could not be established. I know the cable shouldn't matter, but put aside the DVI-I cable in favour of a DVI-D male/DVI-D male dual link cable, then give this a retry (you want to remove everything analog-related for this setup). Delete the DELL monitor drivers if you have to, then repeat this sequence. There is a lot of trial and error involved, but if you're really intent on making Blu-ray work on your PC, you may need a more drastic measure, i.e. backing up everything, then re-installing the OS and all of the other application software. I would advise this as a measure of last resort though. Quote:

Thanks for the info, I'm actually using a DVI-D cable (came with the Iiyama) just one horizontal pin - don't know my I's from my D's.
I've an upgrade of Vista Ultimate and a couple of 1tb Hdd's to install. I also have a Matrox card in my system - do some wedding's and have an upgrade for that, so might switch to Vista 64 and do a clean install and start from there. I will try the driver check, but when I downloaded the driver pack from Iilyama site and unzipped it, my monitor wasn't there. When I boot everything seems ok and resolution was 1920x1080 as had been set. When I try it I'm only on the one monitor with the Dell's disconnected. If nothing happens and I do a Vista install I'll probably be quiet for a while!! Can't go to windows 7 as my Matrox has no drivers for ~ 6 months. |

Cyberlink came back again,
1. Run 'msconfig' . Uncheck "Load Startup Items". "Restart". 2. Increase Virtual memory : Select "Custom" and enter initial value as "2048" and Max value as "4096". Did both of these with same result - sent another email to Cyberlink - at least they are still trying to help, more than I received from LG. |

It's important that when you bring up the display settings that the make and model of your monitor is shown, rather than it being identified as a Plug & Play monitor, even if your screen resolution is correct. Quote:

Monitor is my son's Christmas present - so I was 'testing' it for dead pixels, you understand! Will let him know about drivers, thanks.
The Matrox card is only supported up to XP - it's an RT.X100 and i'm moving to an RT.X2 full size card. I use this for video editing - along with Adobe Premier Pro 2 I have PP4 but the drivers for the 100 card also only support up to PP2. Matrox won't provide Windows 7 drivers for RTX2 for at least 6months, so I can't easily upgrade from XP32bit to Vista 64bit. So if I upgrade now the transition to W7 will be straighforward (I hope) So i've decided (after my current video project is complete) to move to Vista 64 using my RTX2 card and PP4, this will be a clean install on 2x 1TB internal drives - hopefully then my BD's will play. I'll post when complete - thanks for the help folks. |
