I am sick of the router I curently have and was wondering what is the best, most reliable wireless router out there that I should get? Thanks.

This one:

It's a Linksys WRT160N model wireless B/G/N compliant router. We bought it about 3 months ago, and using a compatible N USB adapter our network speed is lightning fast. Not to mention it's very reliable as well. I highly recommend it.

My WRT54G has been running strong for over 3 years... what kind of problems are you experiencing with yours? I'd say reset it and also go to the Linksys/Cisco site and update the firmware.

Before we got our new one I listed above you, this is the one we had for over 6 years. It's definitely a work horse.

Are there any that you would recommend other then linksys products? I'm looking for a N+ router and am tired of this company. Thanks though, I am glad you are getting good results with linksys.

I have just one thing to say: DD-WRT
I flashed this firwmare to my WRT54G and I have never had any issues, ever. Plus I get statistics, VPN support, DDNS, and all kinds of other fun stuff.

Then again, you have to know a little bit about this stuff though, so it might not be the best answer for someone who just wants to plug it in and have it work.
Do you have the Linksys WRT54G now? I think it is a pretty great router for the price. I have to disagree about that new one, the 160, I prefer the older one, I've had less problems with them, and the range is probably only better if you have wireless-N on your computer.

Edit: I realized after posting that I had a lot more than one thing to say, whoops!

If you really hate Linksys, I would say... maybe Netgear? I would stay away from D-Link. They make some good access points, but I haven't had a good experience with their routers in the past.

I have the same router. I like the management software that comes with it. It's been very stable to date. I use a similar G model at work and it's been rock solid for well over a year now.

I know what you need: Apple! Get yourself a nice Airport Extreme. Configuration is easy, and my airport expresses work very well, although I don't use them as routers.

I'm very happy with my Belkin F5D9230-4. I could set up a secure network with it where the following devices are connected, sometimes multiple simultaneously, without a problem:

PC (with P2P ports open)
notebooks (x2)
PS3
PSP
NDS
Wii

and you also have space for 4 cabled connections. I get a steady and strong signal all through the house, up to 3 or 4 rooms away and even into my garden.

It's 2 years old so perhaps in the mean time there are better or more convenient models out, but it still gets the job done for me.

Default What Happened to my switch?

I don't have a router but I have been successfully using a gigabit switch for up to 3 devices including my BD player for 6 months. The switch was free so I used it.

Recently something happened - now it will only allow 1 of the 3 device's internet connection at a time. The main laptop keeps internet but the BD and 2nd laptop can not get a good IP address. If I want to use BD-Live or the 2nd laptop I have to restart the cable modem by unplugging it then whichever of the 3 devices is turned on first it will get the IP address and the others will not anymore.

I try 'ipconfig /release' and 'ipconfig /renew' in dos and still don't get a good IP address on the 2nd laptop where I did before with no problem.

That is because you only get one IP address from your ISP, unless you pay for more. I don't know how that was working before, but you need a router, it will take that one IP address and then create local IP addresses for all the devices and let them all get out to the internet simultaneously.

thanks. I knew that about a router, but when I tried the switch just by hooking it up and surprisingly it work flawlessly until now. Now I will looking for a router.

I've got friends who swear by the D-Link DIR-655. Personally, I'm a Linksys user, but they say it works great for streaming video and has good connections strength and speed.
