Default Biggest Blu-ray disappointments of 2009, Your Opinions?

I know Gladiator is the obvious answer here, but there have been plenty of other stinkers this year.

Gojira - Can't tell you how much I was looking forward to this classic from my childhood, and it ends up being a godawful 1080i trainwreck.

Of course, there was much consternation about the Friedkin-supervised transfer of The French Connection. What was one of the most anticipated Blu-Rays of early 2009 became one of the most controversial.

What are some of yours?

Army of Darkness wasn't a stinker, but I was hoping for something a little better, especially in regards to special features.

Gladiator, sadly. Although I see this thread spiraling faster than Twister once we get some of the Negative Nancies in here.

Gladiator has to be the "winner".

I don't think I have anything major to really complain about....other then the fact that Warner still needs to adopt lossless audio as a standard for ALL releases going forward....

Obviously Gladiator and the catalog Star Trek original crew films could have been done a lot better, but they are still upgrades visually from their DVD counterparts so I still bought them....

I wish GI Joe hadn't been so rushed and that they gave it more/better special features (and that they were in HD and not just stuck on a DVD)....

I wish they had been able to include "The Face Of The Enemy" webisodes on either the Battlestar Galactica complete series set or The Plan....I also wish they had carried over all the special features from the previous Chasing Amy DVD onto the new BD....

I wish they had redone the Rocky disc in the new collection set...added the commentary tracks from the SE DVD and given the film a fresh new AVC encode...

Here's another thing: Hey Dreamworks, where are my catalog CGI-cartoon releases? Pixar gave us both A Bug's Life and Monsters Inc, but not a one from Dreamworks in over a year now....come on guys, you couldn't throw us a Shrek or Over The Hedge to be released alongside Monsters Vs Aliens (either in theaters or on home video)??

Final disappointment for me: the fact that they stopped issuing the Bond films...I've heard they haven't sold as well as expected, plus MGM is on the verge of bankruptcy...still, I want to finish out the series!

I hate to say it, but Forrest Gump was a little disappointing. I watched it today for the first time on BD, and some scenes were not up to par. It was good, but I know it could of been better just like Gladiator.

Ghostbusters was a big disappointment to me. I am not a grain hater but I felt like I was in a blizzard with this title.

I highly doubt anyone would agree or even care about it but i was immensely disappointed that there was no BD-Live option for Transformers 2. I was looking forward to some sort of exclusive features online. Overall not a big deal (A/V quality is outstanding) but I was disappointed w/ the BD.

I'm going to have to go with The Girl Next Door. I love the movie, but from reading reviews of it, it seems literally barely better than the DVD. I was really looking forward to it coming on BD and now I'll just stick with my DVD copy.

The OP nailed it for me

Gladiator
Gojira (Godzilla)
The French Connection

We should award these titles the "Deja Blu" awards because they take us back to a simpler format—VHS

...well maybe that's a bit extreme, lets say DVD

Gremlins. I wish it looked better. Also, the biggest disappointment would be the LOTR trilogy not coming to blu this year.

Gladiator and the original Star Trek films. There are serious issues with those transfers that could have been corrected with some investment by the studio.

Definitely. The winner of 2008 was Gangs of New York. Gladiator takes the cake this year.

Gladiator
Fargo

What's wrong with the world when Road House looks better than some of my favorite flicks

I was also slightly disappointed with Slumdog Millionaire. Not that it was a bad blu-ray, it's probably just how the movie looks, but I thought it looked much better in the theater than on my TV.

Let the Right One In. Seriously.

Act I.
The movie is released on Blu-ray in the U.S., but with different, "dumbed down" subtitles. The studio promises to put the theatrical subtitles on the next pressing, but basically says "F U" to all the people who bought it on Day 1. To this date, you still can't find a Blu-ray in the U.S. with the theatrical subtitles because the supply of the initial pressing has yet to be exhausted at retailers.

Act II.
The movie is released on Blu-ray in Sweden with the theatrical subtitles, but no lossless sound. A few desperate people in the U.S. import it since it is region-free. A couple of weeks later, a mandatory PS3 firmware update renders the movie unplayable on a U.S. model PS3.

Act III.
The movie is released on Blu-ray in the U.K. with the theatrical subtitles but the studio accidentally leaves off the lossless track. This error is being fixed.

Act IV.
Not sure I care anymore?

Honorable mention: Hero. DTS HD master audio for the English dub and lossy Dolby Digital for the ORIGINAL language. To add insult to injury, the DVD had superior audio for the original Mandarin track.
