It's been a great year in sports, but what are the biggest upsets for 2009 in sports.

I would have to go with Juan Martin del Potro beating Roger Federer in the 2009 US Open. Roger broke the All-Time record by winning his 15th Grand Slam at Wimbledon.

Federer's loss was shocking, and equally stunning was Rafa getting beaten by Soderling at the French.

Really wasn't much for huge upsets this year, but I'd have to go with Federer losing to del Potro. Another big upset was Mine That Bird winning the Kentucky Derby as a 50-1 longshot, the 2nd biggest upset in Kentucky Derby history. It seemed like a huge upset in college football when Washington beat USC but it turned out USC wasn't very good.

Yeah sorry.. It was the Champions League semi final second leg.. Chelsea v Barcelona at Stamford Bridge.. Chelsea had a couple of dead certain penalties turned down.. especially one in the last minute, a clear hand ball. Chelsea destroyed Barca that night, but Barca scored ouf of nothing late on to go through on away goals.. Sad night for English footy..

i thought pittsburgh beating detroit in the stanley cup finals was a pretty big upset, judging from the way the sports personalities were talking during the series

He is and he'll win about 5 more slams when it's said and done.

I don't consider Del Potro's win over Federer an upset at all. He has already played him in a 5 setter in this years French Open (which he led 2 sets to 1 BTW), so it was only a matter of time before he would conquer Federer in a grand slam tournament. Del Potro was a very underrated player up until that win. He ain't no more, that's for sure.

Judging by what the announcers were saying, maybe. Pittsburgh was/is a very good team though. Detroit played terribly on the road in the finals though (and game 7of course). It was like two different teams.
