Default Update suggestion: upscaling and 24fps via component

I'm one of the growing number of users who suffer HDMI incompatibilities between the PS3 and their TV. Therefor, even though I have HDMI, I can't use it properly. I get really nasty banding and a sort of screen-door effect on PS3 menus from HDMI which aren't there in component. I heard of a guy with a new Panasonic projector having the same issues.

I would like to suggest that Sony allow 24fps via Component, if possible, as well as SD DVD upscaling (upscaling being more important for me).

Because I have to use the PS3's component out, I lose good upscaling.

I'm pretty sure that because of some sort of restriction, dvd's can only be upscaled via HDMI Cables. Also, some tvs only have 1080p via their HDMI and component is scaled down in some way. I know the only way to get 1080p to my TV is through HDMI. I'm sure someone will confirm or deny my claims.

Never going to happen, DVD forum won't allow upscaling over anything but HDMI.

I say, time to upgrade your set.

Not likely going to happen. Part of the regulations for content control state that an upconverting DVD player that upconverts must upconvert over HDMI only, and restricts upconversion through Component. The content standards people at the movie studios thought that an upconverting player that could convert standard 480p DVD content into 1080i/1080p over an analog source would be almost the same as allowing content to be captured over digital, thus making HDCP a totally wasted endeavor. So to even the score they made it so you can only send the upconverted signal through an HDMI conenction.

I'd like to see upscaling on 480p content on a Blu-Ray disc...I've noticed that the extras aren't upscaled when I watch them - not much, but it's something worth noting.

Just curious. I'm sure it wouldn't work, but what if the player upconverts via hdmi to an AV receiver and the AV receiver is hooked to the TV via component? Have that blocked that as well?

It really bites being an early adopter who bought a 65" set before hdmi was even out.

I convert the HDMI to DVI then to VGA and it's great at 1080i but you need an adaptor somewhere in the stream that is HDCP compatible. They don't want you making hi-rez copies so they stamp on everybody.

Is there an HDMI to component adapter anywhere that would allow this to work? Not interested in making copies but I would like to see what I've paid for.

I have an even worse probem.....and I'm not upgrading my set.

My Sony KV-34XBR800 has a DVI input which in the manual clearly states that it is HDCP compliant, but my PS3 will not output a picture though it!

My Directv HR20 works fine through the HDMI to DVI connection.

I've switched cables.....tried the "hold the button down" trick.....made sure the PS3 is set to not output 1080p since my set only accepts 1080i....etc, etc, etc.

Sucks!

The PS3 easily recognizes the HDMI connection on my Vizio 32" set in the bedroom.

So I'm using the component connection from the PS3 to the TV and am not able to take advantage of what's offerred via HDMI.

Why would this not work if the TV is HDCP compliant?

When I've got some time to waste I'll call Sony.....probably won't do any good.

Is there a work-around?
