Default PS3 & DVD Multi-regioning

Hiya, i've been wondering something recently, while I was re-arranging my home cinema. I have a upscaling DVD player for region 2 DVDs and a PS3 for Blu-ray and region 1 DVDs and would really love to condense this down to just having a PS3 as the main unit that plays everything.

I am a UK resident, but bought a US PS3 because of wanting it sooner than the UK release date, as well as the titles coming out over in the US quicker than here (well, for the most part lol!) I love it truly, it is the pride of my home cinema! I just wish I could play my region 2 DVDs on it as well!

Could any tech guys out there please help me by answering my questions? Simply put, is it possible in future for there to be a code or a disc or a firmware upgrade that would make the PS3 multiregional in playing DVDs? Doesn't have to be announcd right now, but is it forseeable as happening or technologically possible?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

It is technologically possible........in Greece i know a lot of people that have a european PS2 but they can also play region 1 dvds.........or they have a US PS2 and they can also play region 2 dvds.......it's a region free disc.......you put it in the console and then you put the movie you like...................that's the best solution...........maybe something like this come out for PS3 too later........
