Default PS3, DTS HD and so on...

I was wondering if the PS3's can play the HD audio off the blu-rays?
I just purchased a new Yamaha receiver with the hdmi in/outputs and was hoping to take advantage of the HD audio.
After testing a few blu's the audio decodes PCM on the receiver, can I get the DTS HD and so on or is the PCM audio the same as the HD?
Maybe I need to change some settings somewhere?
Thanks

Ps3 slim or original? Both can decode but only the Slim will bitstream out.

The PS3 decodes the lossless tracks and outputs multichannel PCM to the receiver. It's the same audio you would get if the player bitstreamed the TrueHD and dts-MA tracks to a receiver for decoding. So, if you are selecting the lossless track on the disc and your receiver is getting multichannel PCM, then you are getting the HD audio. The newer PS3 slim can decode and bitstream. The older PS3s can only decode and output PCM.

I have the older PS3 and am getting the PCM signal. I guess not seeing the "DTS HD" made me worry, glad to hear I am getting the HD audio.
Thanks

Since the receiver doesn't see the DTS signal, you don't get the light there. However, if you press the Display button on your PS3 remote, you should see a DTS-HD MA icon on-screen.

No problem. I found that sticky way back when, and it really helped me to understand everything with the PS3's audio capabilities.
