Sadly enough its been a bomb at the BO. It doesn't seem to be gaining back its total production budget of 105 million. A bunch of people said it was going to be a successful hit, they failed.
P.S Not even The Lion King which was 100x better had that crazy production budget cost. Last edited by Spit_Fire; 12-29-2009 at 05:50 PM. |

Woah, that's a lot of money spent on that day, because I will without a doubt buy this as a blind-buy, and same with Toy Story 1 & 2. ![]() |

105 Million !!! Are you kidding me.... that's more than Aladdin too, but it felt like the animation was really bad compared to the last movies, it looked almost like a Direct-to-Video kind of Disney movie, which pissed me off. ![]() |

Again, there's a difference between a "disappointment" and a "bomb", and the latter is usually manufactured sight-unseen to justify their religious faith in the former: Disney's "Treasure Planet" was competition-shoved into a tentpole-crowded post-Thanksgiving opening behind Harry Potter, 007, and Disney's own "Santa Clause" (they thought it would be out of theaters by then), and was proclaimed a studio-destroying catastrophe--and was instrumental in the Animation Shutdown of '03--because it had opened in...FOURTH PLACE!!!! ![]() To this day, people are still convinced the movie itself must've been a historic turkey of celluloid-melting Gigli proportions because...well, like, it didn't make money! I mean, if it wasn't, that would mean BoxOfficeMojo was wrong! And big Hollywood-grosses people are ALWAYS right! ![]() ...It's called "Context", people. That's why we're not "worshipping" the Avatar grosses, either. |

The film has not been announced yet. Ultimate Disney just posted it under their rumored/expected page. It will be announced at CES, or if they don't finalize the plans, they will announce it after that. A May/June release date is more reasonable, but I could see it as early as April.

Then, pushed back to a "prestige" exclusive NY/LA opening in Thanksgiving, with a wide release two week later. (Remember, they were still unsure about coming back, and wanted to strategically make audiences' mouths water a bit, just in case.) The reason given was "too much competition for a heavy weekend"-- But Sherlock hadn't announced their Christmas release yet, so Disney's last minute game-of-chicken blink made fans jawdrop, "You have got to be kidding us...You were scared of freakin' ALVIN?????????? ![]() (What was worse is, every other all-big movies-are-the-same columnists were predicting dire doom and gloom of "Can Disney beat Alvin?" for Dec. 25th...And when Disney believed it too, we animation fans felt like we were ten miles down the rabbit hole, and Rod Serling was looking over our shoulder. ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 12-29-2009 at 09:36 PM. |
