It has hardly been a bomb... It has made $64,000,000 in the US alone and is just coming up on it's 3rd week in wide release. It still hasn't even opened in several huge foreign markets, where it stands to make a ton of money, plus merchandise has been selling like crazy. They may not be happy with how the numbers look right now, but it's way too early to say it has bombed. The Emperor's New Groove didn't perform that well in theatres, but sold really well on DVD, there is no question that they will easily make their money back on this film. Hopefully they will learn their lesson and work out their release dates a little better next time around. They had to know Avatar and the chipmunk movie were going to take a lot of business.

The theatrical releases matter less and less anymore anyway.

The DVD/BLU releases is where the real money is made. And I'm sure this one will sell crazy.

Not to mention it opening around the time of Avatar was gonna kill the BO anyway.

And opened in mid-December, when nobody ever goes to movies unless they have a pretty darn good reason to. (Which accounts for the money it did make.)

Again, there's a difference between a "disappointment" and a "bomb", and the latter is usually manufactured sight-unseen to justify their religious faith in the former:
Disney's "Treasure Planet" was competition-shoved into a tentpole-crowded post-Thanksgiving opening behind Harry Potter, 007, and Disney's own "Santa Clause" (they thought it would be out of theaters by then), and was proclaimed a studio-destroying catastrophe--and was instrumental in the Animation Shutdown of '03--because it had opened in...FOURTH PLACE!!!! Um, just out of curiosity, which one were they expecting it to beat?
To this day, people are still convinced the movie itself must've been a historic turkey of celluloid-melting Gigli proportions because...well, like, it didn't make money! I mean, if it wasn't, that would mean BoxOfficeMojo was wrong! And big Hollywood-grosses people are ALWAYS right!

...It's called "Context", people. That's why we're not "worshipping" the Avatar grosses, either.

really excited about this release. I enjoyed the movie a lot. I thought the animation was done really well too. definitely better than the direct-to-video types. will be buying this day one. bring on the coupon.

But so far its been a big disappointment, to not say: bomber. That's one problem, studios not planning precisely their release dates with much bigger film competitions (such as Avatar) being released around the same time. Way too many movies being released on a same day, thats the cause of many getting hurt in their box office sales receipt.
