Exclamation Mitsubishi - 65" WD-65737 - your opinion?

We have a almost 5 year old Mitsubishi 65" projection tv (tallboy) that we are thinking about replacing. its a good tv but is lacking in options and has not HDMI only Dvi and component. WE have been looking ant dont really want to go smaller. and everything that we see is 50-52 inch and $2200.

I have children and not crazy about the plasma/lcd tv cause of the amount of stuff watched on the tv dont want burn ins and such. anyways, we have been looking online and best buy has they Mitsubishi - 65" WD-65737 for $1600 free shipping. 120hz refresh rate and 3 hdmi and 3 component cable. this is the newer version of what we have now. and it weighs like 70 lbs. My other 65" weighs 337lbs its a full projection tv with the cabinet on the bottom(and that was alot of fun to carry down a flight of stairs when we moved). Does anyone have any imput on this tv? im not wanting to spend the amount of money that the plasma/LCD costs. and we are very happy with the size and dont really want to go smaller. if we get this i will be looking into a Projector for a Theater room for when we get another house with room for a basment.... any help/advice/complaints about this tv would be help alot, i think reguardless it will be well above the washed out Picture Quality mine has now.

Thanks,
-Blaze

I have never owned the model before but I have been looking into them quite a bit and it seems for like every bad experience someone has with them like 100 people don't. Quality wise in my opion the picture looks pretty good to me and I'm pretty picky when it comes to picture quality, I get annoyed easily by image defects. the 73" is too much more either on a lot of electronics websites.

I think Tigerdirect.com has the 65 for i wanna say around 1500 or so for the 120hz model and the one that's not 120z is like 1200. I think that is the prices I saw from there.

You might check U. S. Appliance. They are currently asking $1399 for the 65737.

I say if you like the TV why replace it?
I would spend the cash on a upgraded receiver that has DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD with transcoding so all your video is output via HDMI and use a HDMI to DVI cable to feed the TV and use the TV like a monitor as in no audio picture only.

The only downside is you have to have your audio system on while watching anything. To me though that is no downside at all.

It may seem complicated at first but my fiance and 8 year old can run my set up with no problem.

I have a mits 65905 and love the tv and its going on 10 years. yes its big and heavy and was a pain to get downstairs but still has a good picture. I run everything(video wise) to my denon 3808ci component then out of it to my iscan HD+. Then from my iscan to my tv using component. Have you tried an hdmi to dvi cable? If your tv is calibrated it should still have a good picture. I plan on going to projector next when tv goes bad. I like the JVC DLA HD750BU.

I have the 65 inch diamond series and its awesome. I have ben hard pressed to see a better picture unless you are spending thousands more. The diamond series was given the choice award from Home Theater magazine about six months ago.

I have a 65" Toshiba 1080i CRT HDTV with a DVI input. I use a Pansonic BD55 BD player and decode the audio internally and pass it to my older 5.1 receiver via the analog outputs and connect the video output to the TV with a HDMI->DVI converter.

The picture on this thing is astounding, far better than any plasma or LCD that I've ever seen.

CRT is still the best display technology, IMHO, if you can live with the large cabinet size. To those who complain about that and want a 1" thick LED TV or something, I always say:

Are you more concerned about what the image on the TV looks like, or what the TV itself looks like?

Sounds like a logical choice - it would be worth with it just for the HDMI upgrade. I had a similar TV to what you have now (the 2001 Platinum Plus 65" Mitsubishi), and the choices available now are far superior. I know what you mean about not wanting to go to a smaller screen. I have seen the 73" Mits models for under $2000 (my brother has one), and he has not had any problems with it.

I was just at Costco and they have the 73" Mitsubishi for $1800. A great deal - and with a screen that big, movies will look like movies and sports will be fantastic.

Same here, except I've had it for a little over a year. No problems at all, and I definitely have put some hours on the set.

Default mine's a replacement...

my last set crapped out on me, which was maybe 4 years old or less (wd-62525)... had problems with the power supply and optical engine, and after one too many attempts to fix the problem and being a general nuisance, I got a letter in the mail asking me to call a direct phone number.

The person on the other end offered to take my broken tv off of my hands and replace it with a bigger, brand new set from the factory for $350. After the repair bills, it obviously ended up costing more than that, but maybe only 250 more and they would ship it to me at no cost, wouldn't add tax and would of course get rid of the old set.

So it's supposed to be a two week process, and I've already sent them my cashier's check. I'll let you know how it goes and what my impressions are when I get it fired up!
