Default Burning a Blu Ray from an HD DVD

Would it be possible to rip the movie content from an HD DVD and burn it onto a BLU RAY disc to play in a PS3? I know you would not be able to copy menus or special interactive features or anything like that since the format is different. But since both BLU RAY and HD DVD use the same codecs for the video I was wondering if that would be possible.

I wondered that same question last week.

If someone does it, make a YouTube video of it. Be sure to use a Universal exclusive.

I know someone who does this all the time. He has children of men, Matrix 1 and a slew of other hd-dvd exclusives all burned on BD-Rs. All hd-dvd titles work on every blu-ray player, theres nothing hd-dvd can do that blu-ray cannot. The opposite is not true tho. You cannot port 90% of blu-ray exclusives to hd-dvd, the bandwidth is too high.

BTW, these are strait ports, no re-encoding done AT ALL other then audio of course. The video is 100% untouched.

audio should not need to be changed. Blu-ray supports all formats that HD-DVD does. You just need the right authoring app to do it. All it takes is to rip from HD-DVD is the $200 add on for Xbox 360. Plugit into any PC. Search for HD-DVD ripping tool, then take the VC1 or AVC encode and shove it into a Blu-ray authoring app and make a BLu-ray movie disk. It's that simple.

though how would you aquire HD-DVDs to rip, when most rental companies have switched to Blu-ray? Pirating movies will not help Blu-ray movement either.

Sorry lads but we don't allow discussion about methods for piracy. Closing thread.
