sony str-dh700 vs. yamaha htr-6240 - Blu-ray Forum

I'm planning on upgrading my reciever, but i only have 240 dollars including shipping and my bluray player can decode and send it as pcm over hdmi. So it doesn't matter if the reciever can't handle bitstreaming of the hd audio codecs.
The yamaha i want is refurbished and the sony is brand new. So i'm wondering which one would be the better of the two?

Try THIS Pioneer VSX-519V-K for $200 shipped on Amazon. Its temporarily out of stock, but order it now to lock in the price. You can also check the Best Buy website to see if it's in stock at a Best Buy near you since they have it for $205.99 and you may be able to just pick it up right away. HERE's the direct link.

The Sony's feature set is hands down better than any of the competition as far as I am concerned. Best GUI in the market. They have been beating out Yamaha's and Pioneers's on power ratings this year as well, you know where my vote goes....

I would go with the STR-DH800 but my wife is pretty much set on this budget. I would like to go with the STR-DH700, but i read a review on cnet that said it has subpar sound. Normally I don't take stock in cnet reviews but if it is as bad as they say it is then i don't know if i should get it. That's why i'm wondering if some owners of that reciever can chime in to verify that it's a decent reciever.
