Default Pearl Harbor!!!!!

In between making my movie list for our big movie tournament I watched Pearl Harbor for the first time. It is very long but I found myself liking this film. I have heard mixed things about this film but I am a big Michael Bay fan. I am curious as to why this war film isnt considered higher then what it seems? There is a good story, great war battles etc... I would rate this film 4/5 Got Em!!

It was ok. A little too heavy on the romance element for my tastes, and the action took a little too long to get going. I prefer Tora, Tora, Tora over this.

I love this film. I guess I'm with you on this and I do not understand why people do not like it. Czar if you don't have the blu get it. It sounds and looks great.

I agree Czar! Great film with plenty of action and lots of Kate. It was done much like Titanic was. You have a disaster that unfolds around a love story. It keeps you entertained.

I gave it an 8/10.
Amazing PQ and AQ.

I liked the special effects...thats about it for me. I own the film (or I should say my wife owns the film ha!) I would rather watch something like Tora, Tora Tora when it comes to Pearl Harbor. Thought Voight was a terrible FDR.

Horrible horrible film. Even the attack sequence is a chore to sit through.

Thanks for the responses guys. I see someone said it was to romantic. Titanic (which I havnt seen) I hear is very romancy and most people love it or regard it very high. Its funny also, as I was watching it and of course with the love story and then the Japanese attacks and the big boat went sideways, I said to myself (is this the Titanic) haha! But I dont mind love stories etc... as long as the execution is there mixed with the war elements or whatever the film is about. I thought Bay did a great job. But then again I love Bay's work overall. I dont own the blu but I watched in HD on directv. I may add it to the collection though. Got Em!!

As progers13 said, it was a little too heavy on the love triangle. I think they could have shown a lot more of Dan Akroyds character and the Japanese military. I enjoy the movie but it isn't a film I need in my collection any time soon. Glad you liked it Czar!

I am a huge war film buff and this one just doesn't do much for me, though the battle scenes were pretty good. But like a couple of the other posters mentioned, I much prefer films like 'Tora Tora Tora!' and 'Midway' instead.

(IMO) I would give this 2 out of 5 stars.

I actually really like Pearl Harbor. It isn't without its faults and tried a bit too hard to recapture the formula that made Titanic so succesful. The romance stuff is hit and miss, but the attack on PH is beyond epic. All of the plane stuff is pure demo material.

Plus it had one of the best trailers of all time.

The first images of the Japanese fighters flying into Hawaii gives you chills.

Czar- you should have made this a poll!

Make sure to go watch Titanic...on DVD...but I'm curious about what your take will be on it.

Haha I will have enough polls as it is with the big movie tournament so I just wanted this to be a discussion thread. I think I will wait for blu to watch Titanic or HDTV if directv airs it. I dont like standard definition anymore. Im a snob! Haha! Got Em!!

Thumbs down

Pearl Harbor in many ways is like Godzilla....big budget, loud audio and cheesy/campy dialogue.

2.5/5

I don't mind PH, but I couldn't help but think of Titanic when watching it. They completely tried to rip off that formula, but Leo and Kate were much more convincing in Titanic. Still a decent flick though.

No I think you have it reversed! Godzilla is like the Godfather! Pearl Harbour is load of Michel Bay, bollocks up on the screen!

I agree I see the same lousy Michael Bay thing! Why he is the worst director out there!

Did you or have you noticed the end credits goes to theme song similar to Titanic then cuts to score after the love theme song as finished. It’s so unmemorable because I can’t remember a few simple lyric words from it.

Titanic “and my heart will go on and on. Far across the distance”.

Pearl Harbour? The only thing great about it was start of chapter 20 or 21 onwards.

The rest of it was boring me to tears, a load of Bay Soap! When I watch the Bluray I just skip to chapter 20! I don’t think of Michael Bay, I think of Academy Award 20 or is it (21) time nominee Kevin O’Connell

I guess my problem with the movie is that is gives the same importance to a silly romance as it does to the battle. Grandfather: "See kids, when Pearl Harbor was attacked, there was this romance..."

I'll be completely honest--I thought the film was terrible. The action scenes were incoherent and poorly filmed, the love story was trite and unnecessary. The third act completely fell flat. Just my opinion, though. 1.5 (out of 4)
