Smile $100 system

I don't mean to be rude, but all that you will get for $100 is a box of useless junk. And wireless ??? Forget it !! There is no such thing. Save your money and get something that will actually do the job. Check out this link: http://www.accessories4less.com/make...od-Dock/1.html . This is the bare MINIMUM I would suggest for a real surround sound system.

Did you mean $1,000.00?

If not, then just wait a few years and save your money until you can afford something that is decent.

Good luck,

Hey,

Don't fret. It's not like you can't get anything for $100... You would certainly have to go with used stuff though and you're likely best sticking to stereo.

Do you have anything to begin with?

Cambridge Soundworks used to sell some 5.1 systems for $200 that were actually use-able but wouldn't be confused with the type of setup that $1000 would get you.

If I had nothing and $100 I would look at the Salvation Army and hopefully find a stereo amp and speakers. You can get a DVD Player for under $20 at Walmart.

Edit- If you serious (and I think you can forget the wireless part) then I think COBY stuff at Walgreens and CVS is the stuff you want to look for.

Thats funny and i doubt you were serious but oh so true none the less. My buddy just got some old (70's-80's) tower speakers that actually have pretty great response... utterly blow away everyones HTIB we know, most of which cost over $500. He got two towers for $10 a piece lol, and the receiver for $50 (thing looks like it came out of an old sci-fi movie with the dials and such), and for $70 the system out performs most of the junk the public thinks is great. This was all purchased at one of those salvation army type stores. Its possible if you get lucky.

You can buy a brand new 5.1 speaker set, including a subwoofer for $50. You heard it correctly. Mavin specializes in selling overstock and out of business products. They have been in business for a long time and are reliable.

You can also buy a used receiver from Ebay for less than $100:

or

buy a new 5.1 Sherwood receiver for $160:

Sweet

Is there anyway I can install a wireless kit for the speakers I have now (Phillips MX 5600D)

The ones I got now sound great, (not even sure I need to upgrade) but I'd like something which I can acually get the rear speakers behind me without everybody in my family trippin over the wires

Rocketfish makes a wireless transmitter and receiver set up for the rears. It sells in Best Buy for about $100 but maybe it can be found online for less.

HEY! I got my first DVD HTiB set (JVC) free with credit card points. If not for that set, I would not have what I have today. One day, I went out and bought a 52" HDTV and a BD player. Using only the TV speakers, the difference between the cheap POS HTiB was so noticeable, I had to out and get the AVR and 7.1 speakers. The rest is history. Keep looking. You'll never go back to 2.0 for movies.

I got one for around $100 once and believe me, you never want to waste the money. Just save for a while and don't get a HTiB. Just get a separate receiver and separate speakers it's worth it...believe me.
Just make sure you get the speakers and receivers from good companies (Polk, MartinLogan, Energy, Denon, etc.)
I have a Denon 1910, Energy Connoisseur C-2 front speakers, Energy XL-S8 Subwoofer, MartinLogan Encore TF Center Speaker, all hooked to a Samsung 40 inch (the 650 series)
This sounds and looks FANTASTIC and was worth every penny.

Just a quick thought, but as others have said $100 is low. And if you don't have a lot of experience buying and doing critical evaluations of systems, going used can be an outright waste of money PLUS not being able to return it later.

When starting out in home theater, I definitely suggest getting decent low end stuff, but get it new so you have the safety of a 30 day return policy and (hopefully) sales people that are helpful to get you what you need.

Are you sure this is any good? It says that it is a 5.1 system but there is no indication of any sub. It states it is a 5.1 system but then goes on to list the speakers seperately without any mention of a sub.

Also, why would they pair up some 4ohm fronts with the rest being 8ohm? And!... The rears claim to be full range with a single 4" driver??

Speakers at this price seriously makes me question the quality. I know it is cheap and many might say "what can you expect for $50"... But these must be real bad! I am sorry to doubt your post Big Daddy as I can see you offer a lot to this community but if they can't even get the little things right, I can't believe anything else stated with these speakers... These would be junk.

Edit: I just realised that a "Subwoofer speaker project box" is included. It is still unclear to me exactly what this includes.

I can't tell you anything about the quality of these speakers. It appears that you may have to put the subwoofer together. You will have to send an email to them and ask them.

Most of the items Mavin sells are from companies that have gone under or products that are discontinued. I have bought genuine Polk woofers and tweeters for discontinued Polk speakers from them at exceptionally low price and they were flawless. I have also bought crossovers from them.

I think the boxes they ship them in will sound better than the speakers at that price, this just doesn't make sense, how can you make speakers and sell them for that price, the wood has to cost more than what they are selling them for.

Try looking on craigslist. I just picked up a Pioneer stereo receiver and 2 Boston Acoustics 3-way speakers for $40 this weekend.
