Ive been having a problem for a while with my PS3, sometimes i can only hear half of my audio. I have a Pioneer VSX-519v and its set to direct sound (no mixing). i have to always reset my options to get the correct sound. Any solutions.

1st off. Is your player set to bitstream or LPCM.
2nd-if it's set to LPCM. This means your receiver is getting the sound, and the player is decoding (no duh right) I'd go into the menu and see what the defaults are. On my onkyo I can set each codec (dts master, Dolby true hd, etc.) and if I want to have all codec's played as say......stereo period. I'd have to adjust each codec and set it to stereo. or last confimred or something liek that. 3rd. if its bitstream......well sorta the same thing I believe; the receiver for me decides what codec is being used and trasnlates it to what I tell it too. I have each codec play what each codec is supposed to be. ex: dts master=dts master, dolby true hd=dolby true hd etc. ![]() Hope this helps a little. |

also depends on what ps3 you have.....slim or phat
looking at your gallery you have a phat. leave the ps3 settings to lpcm. you shouldnt have to reset unless you do a reset via holding power button. must be a receiver setting. your receiver should show that its getting pcm audio Last edited by un4gvn94538; 03-31-2010 at 06:13 PM. |

i just think its my whack receiver, its out of date and cant decode lossless, but it tries to anyway, until it understands that my PS3 is sending a LCPM signal. Thanks anyway guys.

Do you have a reason for having it set to direct sound? You should have it set to mulitchannel that way the audio coming from your fat is already decoded multichannel is the best for sound settings on your receiver to get the HD codecs to play.

Hey neos, just to let you know with the Onlyo's if you set it to say DOLBY or DTS, DOLBY TRUE HD, DTS MASTR, etc. Your not getting a direct audio feed of what's on the disc. You want the Onkyo to be set to DIRECT if it's set to BITSTREAM you'll see it light up on the receiver's OSD, By doing the other stuff your using a sound enhancer which actually to me makes it sound worse and you should really never add enhancement with a lossless bitstream, by doing so you're kind of defeating the purpose of bitstreaming lossless audio if you're going to add foreign sound enhancement to the track you're not hearing it the way the director intended. It's the same principle as when the movie prouction companies add edge enhancement or DNR to the pic of a blu which essentially makes the image show artifacts, or look softer then intended. Just letting you know but if your happy with how it sounds that's all that matters.

(Edit: Though your system can't bitstream, it WILL play HD audio using LPCM. Current PS3 firmware includes both TrueHD & DTS-HD MA decoders; both are basically Zip files for LPCM, so you still get bit-perfect sound from multichannel LPCM over HDMI.) On my old reciever, that really couldn't decode LPCM tracks(at least not 4.0 or higher), I had to bitstream it. and it worked just fine, though not at it's full potential. However when I tried to play a disc that had on of those uncompressed tracks, and while I got sound, the center speaker was not working, and that's because the reciever was decoding it as if it where Dolby Surround, and had no way of decoding it properly. I don't thave that problem now but this how I had it set up:
Sound settings>HDMI out, then select only DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1(only if your reciever can decode it), and do not select any of the LPCM tracks. as that my cause half of the sound to be played. Set the video out to bitstream only. I plugged the HDMI cable into the back of the TV, the reciever did not have one, and the optical cable from the TV to the reciever, with the DSP(digital signal processor) turned on. And that worked, it's not the greatest, but it beats turning the seettings to LPCM, and have all the sound down mixed to Dolby Surround. |
