Just bought an Onkyo TR-SX507 as recommended in pervious thread (https://forum.blu-ray.com/home-theat...-solution.html).
I'm in the middle of setting up everything. I just realized my subwoofer from my old Sony subwoofer isn't powered and this receiver only has a spot for plugging in an RCA cable for the subwoofer. The one I have only has the two wires that are spliced. Any suggestions on retrofitting that? Is there something I can buy at Bestbuy or some other store to retro it in? Or, do I need to find a cheap subwoofer? Thanks |

Buy a new sub. There are plenty out there that are powered to choose from.
Lots of information in this section: https://forum.blu-ray.com/subwoofers/ |

I started off with a crappy HTiB and the subwoofer that it came with was not powered and I encountered the same issue as you seem to be having. When I upgraded my first powered subwoofer was the Sony SAW2500 and was more than noticeable and worked for the time being and was "cheap" at only $99.99 from Best Buy. I have recently upgraded further and purchased a Polk PSW10 ($199.99) and the difference again is HUGE!
Read the forums and find out what's best for you. I just thought I'd throw in some suggestions. Links for both subs are below. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+1...&skuId=8417527 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Polk+Aud...&skuId=8826112 Last edited by umich08; 03-02-2010 at 08:08 PM. |

If your old Sony sub uses speaker wire, just run it from the fronts and run the fronts to the sub. The sub'll handle the crossovers and send the rest to the fronts.
Be careful adding speakers like that- you really need to know the ohm rating and make sure it's between 6-8 ohm. |
